Videos longer than 30 minutes: An update

Hello, everyone.

Recently, Ross released three Game Dungeon videos nearly an hour long each: Veil of Darkness at around 56 minutes, Phantasmagoria 2 at almost an hour and a half, and Messiah at almost 56 minutes.  Taken together, these videos constitute well over 3 hours of material: 193 minutes.  As it takes me about 1 hour to do one minute of video, subtitling these videos would take me about 193 hours, or about 8 days of nonstop work.

Sadly, as my life has gotten rather busy, in addition to my other projects, I have to announce that I will be no longer subtitling any video longer than 30 minutes long.  Harry Buster was 16 minutes and that was fine for me, and Freeman's Mind averages between 8 and 12 minutes long, and that's also fine.

However, if a video is more than 30 minutes long, I apologize, but I will not be the one subtitling them in the future.  They will eat up too much of my free time.

So, in recompense, I will be announcing that if you wish to subtitle them, please go ahead and post them to this forum and I'll proofread them and even edit them to conform with the standards for the subtitles I set up for myself, then submit them to the official videos.  And I thank you profusely!

tl;dr: My apologies, but I will no longer be doing subtitles for videos longer than 30 minutes.

Well, I hope "busy" isn't a substitute for "shitty" and you're doing fine. Just to think how much you have done over the years... and the speed you've been releasing new FM subs - you need a medal for doing such an amazing job and I thank you very much for all your work! Not only as a viewer, but as a translator as well. I mean, without you I wouldn't have anything to work with.  

Let's hope that someone will back you up on the longer episodes. Although, if that's not the case, in my opinion it would be more practical to take as much time as you need to make subs for the better albeit longer episodes (or the one's you like best), than to waste time on relatively throwaway stuff like Harry Buster. But then again, you know better what's best for you.

I would be happy to try and make the subtitles, if only I had confidence that my work will be at least utilized (if not appreciated).

In the past I have already responded to such request (made by Ross himself) - back then he asked to make timestamps for his chats. It took me... quite some time to do this, and in the end my work was not used in any way whatsoever. Ross didn't even acknowledge that someone has fulfilled his own request, let alone utilize it (the original idea was that it will allow him to avoid answering the "Y U in Poland?" questions for gazillionth time).

Your forum signature has a link to a Google drive with hundreds of subtitles. My estimate is that more than half of them are still not added to the corresponding Youtube videos, despite having been made years ago. Please understand that treating people's work like this is somewhat of a morale killer.

I have typed out the text for the Veil of Darkness episode.

I will now try to find some software for making *.srt subtitles and learn how to use it.

If anyone decides to not wait for me and do it by himself, or maybe start typing out one of the other two episodes, please drop me a message so that we won't do the same job twice.

I have marked the problematic parts in the file. Those should probably be listened to, and discerned, by an anglophone.

Most severe are:

15:41: Let’s make like a tree (???), and get out of here... (make a retreat)

30:04: We also got a tip about a witch (hut|down???) at the crossroads...

30:39: ...except she is having a fude (???) with the dead guy... (feud)

51:40: ...this becomes quite awkward, because the deck ants (???) keep on working...

Anyway, I have timed the subtitles for the Veil of Darkness episode.

I guess I'll start subtitling the Messiah episode now...

Actually, no. I'm tired of dumping my time into nothingness.

I will continue working on English subtitles after I see this one uploaded to Youtube. I think it's fair enough.
