I do in fact love this game. Very fun, and quite addictive. It hits on that same OCD I had that forced me to run every race in NFS Underground or Most Wanted several dozen times, until I beat them without crashing on the hardest difficulty.

The weapons don't matter, even though they're there. I don't even try to use them... lol

You seem like a fellow who's played a bunch of this game. I just started. At first, i could play solo, which was great for getting to know the game. But later on i accidentally put it in multiplayer mode and i just dont wanna play like that. how do i get back to solo mode?

Should just be in the options under "number of shadows"... The "multiplayer" is just seeing the ghosts (shadows) of other people that ran the map while connected to the internet. They aren't really there, and they're not happening at the same time as you.
