Since I was about 5 I've been a gamer, for a great portion of my life I have been the proud owner of every Sony console since the PS1 and I have truly enjoyed console gaming. However, about 1 1/2 years ago I spent a few weeks over at my friends house... He owned a PC with an awesome catalogue of games so I decided to save up some money and buy myself a PC.

I worked for a year cooking dinners at a retirement village for $25.00 per week and saved up enough to buy my current PC. I have but one problem, I've missed out on so many awesome games and I don't know what they are, in this thread could you please tell me your favourite PC games to come out so I can build up a nice lot of PC greats. In the games please exclude the following as I have already bought them-

The whole GTA series. Borderlands is great in singleplayer and just superb with a friend or two. Mirror's Edge is really cool and different. Cities XL 2011 is the ultimate city builder. My favorite rts is DOW WH40k. And if you haven't played Portal yet, I strongly encourage you to do so.

I find that most GTA games are fun the first week or so of playing them, then I get bored when I get stuck on a mission or something and begin doing pointless stuff like just driving around or shooting people. But even that is boring in the end because it serves no purpose.

 
1. Doom - Where can I find this?

2. Fallout 2 - Semi-interested, not sure about the isometric viewpoint

3. Portal 2 - MUST HAVE

4. Command & Conquer The First Decade - interested, I need some good RTS games

5. Tomb Raider II - Played on Playstation, was okay

6. Duke Nukem 3D - Where can I find this

7. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit - have on console already

8. Fallout 3 - " "

9. Deus Ex - Looks good, I'd need to see some gameplay first though

10. Max Payne - Had on console, was pretty meh IMO

11. Commander Keen - haven't heard of this, I'll look it up

12. Terminal Velocity - " "

21. Borderlands - Very interested

22. Mirror's Edge - have on console

23. Portal - Have on the Orange Box on console

24. DOW WH40k - Friend is giving it to me soon, played that and Winter Assault before

Yep. It has some cool elements to it.

Unreal Tournament - which one? Or all of them?

They're all good but the 2004 version is my favourite.

You should check out Hot Pursuit 2. I haven't played Hot Pursuit(2010) so I don't know how fun it is, but I can tell you that HP2 is a lot of fun. It is an old game, so you should be able to get it quite cheap somewhere.

Just some general advice:

-Bioware usually has great writing and epic stories.

-Bethesda can make an atmospheric world for exploration.

-CoD for a good 'ole adrenaline rush, quickly loses it's charm though.

-I would consider Starcraft digital chess.

-experience an MMO

-Shit your pants by playing a good horror game on a stormy night with headphones on full in the dark.

 
Since nobody else is posting many strategy games...

1. Command & Conquer, any of the series EXCEPT C&C4.

2. The entire Starcraft series.

3. Rome - Total War

4. Demigod (gets boring after a while, but good unique experience IMO)

5. Star Wars Empire At War

6. Tropico 2 or 3

7. Civilization 2/3/4 (not 5)

8. Warzone 2100 (it's free, Google it yourself, I'm too lazy right now)

9. Plants Vs. Zombies

10. The Fate series.

11. The Avernum series. (By Spiderweb Software, great singleplayer only games that will run on any computer)

12. The Age of Empires series.

13. The Warcraft series.

And now on to the other game styles...

1. World of Warcraft (pick a new server and make friends fast or you'll get noting but a headache)

2. Battlefield 2142

3. Mass Effect 1 & 2

4. Need for Speed Underground 1 & 2, and Most Wanted

5. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

6. Deus Ex: Invisible War

Rome - Total War- I love the huge battlegrounds of the game when you are at war but I don't really like the look of the game when you are exploring etc.

Demigod (gets boring after a while, but good unique experience IMO)

Tropico 2 or 3- Looks sort of like Civilization, that's another game I have to get. This one looks quite nice though, I like RTS games

Warzone 2100 (it's free, Google it yourself, I'm too lazy right now)

Plants Vs. Zombies- Very fun game, played it before

The Fate series.- Looks very cool

World of Warcraft (pick a new server and make friends fast or you'll get noting but a headache)- I'm not sure about MMO's, the subscription fee is putting me off of them.

Battlefield 2142- I like the look of this game

Mass Effect 1 & 2- I'm waiting till EA week next year for these

Need for Speed Underground 1 & 2, and Most Wanted- Have on console

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion- Have on console, might consider repurchasing if only for the awesome mod

System Shock 2- Have heard good things about the System Shock series, I'll look into it

Elder Scrolls: Morrowind- Saving up for this, I love TES and everyone always talks about how much better Morrowind is to Oblivion. Oblivion BTW is definetly one of my top 5 games, possibly first.

Neverwinter Nights- I don't like the "dice roll" mechanic that this game impliments

Baulders Gate- Have heard good things about this as well

Diablo- Played it at a cybercafe, I really couldn't get into it at all.

QWOP (lol)- That game made me rage

Counter Strike- eh, I like the look of the game but another multiplayer only game isn't on my list ATM after TF2 ( I am loving TF2 so much )

Hitman: blood money- I might wait till Hitman 5 to get into the series, just to see how good it is.

Kotor 2- Another game I have heard about often, I'll look into it

Planescape: Torment- Story looks cool, but the gameplay doesn't look interesting IMO

Fable 2- I really like the look of this, but I've heard a lot of complaints about it as well

Pursuit 2- I'm a bit put off racing games after GT5, Hot Pursuit and Shift on my console, I don't think I could play a racer on my PC anyway. The KB&M setup doesn't seem to suit racers as well as consoles

 
I'm surprised no one here has ever mentioned Plants VS Zombies. It's really awesome (yeah I know it's very mainstream).

 
Pirates vikings and Knights 2

Its on steam, and is free.

Duke Nukem 3D is as already said a good game remember to play on "Damn im good" difficulty.
