Suggestion: Custom Member Titles

An aesthetic feature that I love, but few forums implement is custom member titles. I've seen some rather funny ones actually.

But I suggest that a user has to be active to receive the ability to set a custom title, like making 10 posts.

I have noticed this forum actually doesn't have member titles at all outside the ranks.

But yes, just a suggestion.

 
I have that on my site, it can be quite amusing seeing what people put for custom titles...

10 posts isn't active, 50 posts is active... Unless you're planning on changing the number repeatedly the longer these forums are up.

 
I've seen that on many forums, for example on thephotoforum you're a TPF NOOB when you're under 25 posts XD!

That encourages people to post more and stop having a NOOB tag under their name...

Indeed. Get 25 posts and be allowed to set your own title.

 
I've seen most forums have default titles up until they're well above 100 posts, and then it's user customisable. ie, Newbie (less than 25), Member (25-50), Advanced Member (50-100ish), Shamalamadingdong (100 and above).

That's pretty much what I am used to.

That sounds like cool idea. But we do need something better then Newbie/member/advanced member.

 
It would be cool to use something from Freeman's mind quotes or something (or maybe HL like 15 posts-headcrab, 30-headcrabzombie or something) I don't know. It's just a suggestion.

Maybe character names, like 50posts barney, 75 dr kleiner and at OVER 9000! posts Freeman

Aren't you afraid we'll get flooded by junk posts, just to inflate the count?

I think the grading system being discussed in another thread is the best option, and is not incompatible with custom titles.

Okay, I think We can stay with broken reputation system

 
This could be done, but I think it'd be better if it was reputation based.

The titles could be something like:

0-9: A Problem

10-24:

25-49: Simba (Custom enabled, but not required)

50-87:

88: -something BTTF related-

89-99: Freeman

Of course, those ideas suck!

Anyway, keep discussing this and I'll show Ross at some point to see what he thinks.

A very nice idea. Might I suggest the titles be based on the HL universe? Something like this:

0-9: City Scanner

10-24: Manhack

25-49: Combine Patrol

50-87: Combine Overwatch

88: - Combine Advisor

89-99: *Something awesome that is higher than the Advisor*

--or something similar..

Why would 88 be combine advisor? It was a number picked out because of BTTF!
