Subnautica

Unfortunately, this game really hits on some of my phobias... I literally couldn't bring myself to go into the deepest parts because of the lack of any illumination and the really fast enemies.

This game gave me at least one new phobia. I can no longer look towards distant places in water because of Reapers.

One of the best 1st person base-building underwater exploration games of all time.

A category of which I can only think of one title- this one- thus making this game really stand apart from others.

Great immersive gameplay- has some story if you care for a deep dive (I didn't.) Really just a window into a possible alien world.

Would Rate: Fantastic

I love this game. The story flows along with your progression well. It has enough structure that you always are moving to the next thing to do at just the right pace (unlike, say No Man's Sky which might actually be too open). I'm not saying it is right for everyone, and having played a bit of the early access for their next installment (Subnautica Below Zero) I'm not convinced they'll be able to capture lightning in a bottle twice but this game definitely rewarded a little investment of time.

"Fantastic" subjective ratings for me. I'm a big fan. I have 70+ hrs in this game. I'm currently playing the sequel "Below Zero"! Love the Subnautica series. A bit "grindy" but it's so delightful to explore the beautiful undersea world, I don't mind going back out to look for another thing of silver or something to build the next thing.

Fantastic game. Wife and I racked up 200+ hours combined on the base game. We're iffy on the Below Zero expansion, they don't seem to know what they want to do with it.

Was just too scary for me. The open water and just turning around to see a giant toothed fish in my face was just too much. Needed co-op to feel a bit safer lol.

Fantastic for me too. One of my favourite games - and also my favourite horror game. The sequel was such a let down.

This game is best played with headphones or surround sound. The mystery of the planet along with the agnostic attitude of the local flora and fauna made me both want to explore the furthest corners of the ocean and hide in my escape pod for the rest of my life.

The different biomes are distinct in visuals, and there are plenty of tools to make sure you don't get lost. I was able to beat the game without looking up anything online, though some parts were confusing and took some time.
