Discuss everything Game Publishers and Gaming Publishing related.

Right now, I can say that Ubisoft is the most interesting, because of their ridiculous stupidity.

"Publisher's antipiracy scheme will prevent customers from playing some of its Mac and PC games for an undetermined period of time during server transition starting February 7." While actual pirates get to keep playing....

THQ get my best big publisher award. EA and Activision get my "I hope you burn in hell for all eternity until you start making new IP again" award.

It's sad because THQ's going under while the evil duo collectively rape their franchises to death.

 
EA, but only for Mass Effect.

Nintendo, just for being Nintendo.

Sony, just for being Sony.

And Warner Bros. for Arkham City.

I think they are making quality products and that's something I appreciate.

They made a quality product and then released the same thing every year until even the idiots who've bought it every year get sick of it.

see: Tony Hawks, Guitar Hero, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty etc. etc.

They all started off fairly innovative, but then they just flood the market with the exact same game every year. It killed off the rhythm-music genre, it killed the arcade skateboard genre, it killed the WW2 shooter genre and soon the modern military shooter will be on the list of genres that died because EA and Acti lack any control.

 
Well, I'm pretty excited about Syndicate, the upcoming FPS from EA. I preordered it today. I dunno about you, but the idea of being able to hack into people's brains and make them do shit against their will makes me grin evilly. And I guess the game will pretty much invent cyber vampyrism since you rip people's chips out of their brains in order to upgrade yourself.

So I think both EA and Activision are capable of publishing good games. And while Activision sure gets most of their cash from Call of Duty, they publish a lot of different games. And developers depend on a publisher like Activision because you need major publishers to keep people under one roof and working, nobody will work for free on such huge projects, and you need them to do the marketing so people can get to hear about it.

 
Heh... are you ever optimistic about anything, Axel? Because every single game I am excited about, you seem to have some criticism about.

Don't talk about something before you've tried it imo. All I'm saying is that the concept seems intriguing.

Actually the developer is worried the game might be "too hard for most gamers", due to its reliance on using tools and devices over just guns, like in Deus Ex.

 
I'm optimistic about a lot of games. Dishonored, Metro: Last Light and Bioshock: Infinite are a few examples.

But our tastes in games obviously differs fairly dramatically.

I'm just saying you shouldn't judge the game before it's even out. It's like saying a food item is nasty before you have tasted it, just because it seems that way.

Either way, let's try and get back on the subject of publishers.

What are your favourite publishers?

 
EA = almost ruined bf3 with their Origin and battlelog. Ruining need for speed.

Activision = ruining the games that give them money because they want.... Well money... Someone needs to teach these assholes that quality is worth more than quantity. I mean look at guitar hero, after Metallica they literally started SPAMMING out games, and they were obviously to dumb to understand that people dont want the same game over and over. The same thing is eventually going to happen to call of duty if they dont start making changes soon....

Actually quite the opposite, they are "smart" enough to realize people do want the same game over and over again, which is why as long as games like Cod stay popular we won't see Activision do anything new.

Yeah, its worked untill now with cod, but how long do you think that cod 4 is gonna last ? They have released the same game 3 times now, people will get tired of it. Once again guitar hero, too many releases of the same game in a short period of time, Im sure they are gonna do the same to cod, eventually.

A sequel is supposed to be the last game with improvements sure, but when they barely do ANYTHING, then its not gonna last for too long.

Yes I have, and IMO it was the same as mw2, just a different menu layout and different names on the killstreaks. I was actually (believe it or not) kinda hyped over mw3. You know seeing how the story would end and all that. I wanted a quick, fun and addicting multiplayer mode that wasnt as crappy as the one in mw2, but no, the singleplayer was disapointing and the multiplayer had extremely boring maps, and the gameplay was almost the same as mw2, just a little more balanced. It barely improved anything from the last game.

 
Well, it's my first CoD experience, so I guess I don't have the same experience with CoD.

Well true, and the whole thing about me not liking mw2 and mw3 is just an opinion.

Ontopic: WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN NEED FOR SPEED EA?!?!?!?! STOP RELEASING SO MANY NFS IN SUCH SHORT PERIODS OF TIME!! And who's brilliant idea was it to use frostbite for a racing game? The car feels like it weighs 100000 tons!!
