Little Nightmares

Some moments were awesome but the core of the game is pretty much shallow and boring, subpar platform/stealth action with really nothing much behind the "horror" moniker.

This game is all style. Rally really good style if you like creepy, gloomy, nightmare like aesthetics. The gameplay itself is okay but it's a simple platformer. It can get really annoying specially in chase sequences because being a physics based platformer all kinds of buggy behaviour may happen but if you like the artstyle you don't be dissapointed. This is the kind of game where you can get loads of new screensavers from.

a true MASTERPIECE of its genre. says everything it needs to say without uttering a single word. powerful atmosphere & story. delivered some of the best gaming experiences of my life.

in 2021, Little Nightmares 2 was released. although not as good as the original, it's still excellent and definitely worth playing.

one important thing to add is that both of these are experiential, rather than mechanically-driven games. here, gameplay is simply a vehicle that carries you along the way, it's not the main attraction. you want puzzles? there are better games for that out there. platforming? likewise. stealth? same answer. but the feels that these games deliver are like no other. so, if you are the kind of gamer that enjoys games purely on a mechanical level, the plot and implicit feelings being secondary or of no importance at all, the these games aren't for you.

on a side note, if you've seen the movie The City of Lost Children, Little Nightmares 1 has a similar vibe.

You are little and your life is a nightmare.

The first half is very good. I like games where you are small and regular household items look gigantic. The second half is more about being chased than hiding so it stopped being scary for me. I dig the art direction.

It's a sidescrolling platformer that is carried by it's atmosphere. The storytelling is great even though it doesn't have a word of dialog. The gameplay is extremely easy, and while it's not quite a walking simulator it's very basic. It has a few gimmick sessions, but if you're played games like Inside, and Limbo it's the same thing. The game's runtime is a few hours, and can be picked up on sale for cheap. If you like atmospheric platformers it's worth a try.
