Is it just me, or did the Gman sound constipated in Half-Life 1?

Kinda ruined the mood for me.

No, to me it just sounded like a higher pitched, lower quality recording, but I couldn't imagine the Gman to sound like James Earl Jones, or Morgan Freeman.
