Sadly, This one isn't sold in North America I believe but it is the 2nd most popular Strategy game after Starcraft (Based on Wikipedia). It used to be a great game, now it's a classic to play it over LAn with some people..
Features:
20 Nations, Up to 8000 Units, Huge battles, Lots of untis from the 17th to 18th century, great mods improving game and AI. One mod called Imperia adds the 19th century!
Most Europeans should know this game.
EDIT: It is now available for netbooks and any OS!
