I decided to make this topic to discuss breaking news. I'll start with this one.

 

Giant blast hits government buildings in Oslo, Norway

From the article "One explosion happened near a government building housing the office of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, said the reporter, Linda Reinholdsen. Another hit near the Norwegian parliament".

 

"A U.S. official says it is too soon to tell what caused the explosion in Oslo or whether it is a terrorist attack. The possibility of terrorism is always a concern because of the ongoing threat from al Qaeda to launch attacks in Europe."

 

This is truly shocking. Norway is probably the last place I would have though something like this could happen.

I saw it coming for a long time really. We've been a target for terrorism ever since we helped the Americans in Iraq. For me it was shocking, but not surprising.

It's most definitely a terrorist attack. A youth camp was just attacked. 20-30 children were killed when a gunman got onto the island that the youth camp was on and opened fire.

I get there regularly every week, but we happen to be on a holiday this week. If we hadn't.. it's insane. The children being shot as wel.. speechless.

Just a quick update on the bombing in Norway, as I need something to do as I am totally unable to sleep right now.

The bombing it self was really just a diversion from the shooting at Utøya.. And the shoot-out have now been confirmed to be at least 80 teenagers killed by one crazed gunman. Plus the 7 from the explosion.

The gunman himself seems to have been working alone, no previous criminal record. 32 years old, white, male and a right-wing extremist.

I can tell you that we are all in extreme shock over here, this is the blackest day in Norwegian history since WWII.

(CNN) -- Singer Amy Winehouse, infamous for erratic public behavior, arrests and drug problems, was found dead at her apartment in London Saturday, her publicist confirmed. She was 27. Her death came less than two months after her latest release from a rehabilitation program and weeks following a disastrous performance where she was booed off a Belgrade, Serbia, stage by disappointed fans.

 

I liked her music, but her personal life was a royal mess. This is such a waste. It's really ironic that while having such talent, a lot of money and beauty (if you look at her earlier photos, you'll see she used to be a very attractive and voluptuous woman) you can self destruct like this.

The American news sources have been saying the cause for the attacks in Norway may have been driven by political beliefs. I think this event reminds us again that not all domestic terrorists are Islamic.

The guy was an extremist who fought against what he saw as "turning Europe into Arabia". He was very anti-Muslim and saw his killing spree as a crusade.

Well, as I said in another thread, extremism usually ends up with a bunch of dead people. It's horrific how you can actually become so twisted as to believe these things and calmly and methodically plan and execute something like this.

With all these anti muslim movies now on the internet I can understand how such a thing can happen.

I don't even get it, if he was anti-muslim why did he kill his own people. Hopefully that is the last of this bullshit. The people on this extremist side need to understand that colour doesn't matter, culture does and the sons of Muslim immigrants usually end up to not be so muslim anymore.

I'm truly upset by this, as if a piece of me has actually died inside upon hearing the news. I can't believe that anyone's mind can become so deluded that they think that murdering teenagers in cold blood is a noble cause.

 

What really hurts the most is the news that I just heard over the radio: "max sentence 21 years." meaning even if this psycho is convicted, he'll be free to roam before long. May karma tear his ass clean off his body before then.

Well most of european countries give reasonable sentences and that is really nothing american citizens should be concerned of.

 

I don't know about other europeans but in Ukraine we also don't believe in "Justice" for some victim who died. We have reasoning that goes if a person died he wouldn't care if his killer got a worse punishment since he is dead.

With all these anti muslim movies now on the internet I can understand how such a thing can happen.

He saw them as betrayers of his country for letting the muslims immigrate, so I suppose that was his reason for the killing spree.

I agree... I'm afraid we'll see similar terror actions done by copycats.
