The game was pretty fun, but very cheesy 2000s humour. Hypnospace outlaw is probably "required reading" in-order to get all of the references and such though. I don't see that on the list though, so I assume Ross didn't like the look of it. 

 

https://store.steampowered.com/app/844590/Hypnospace_Outlaw/ - the prequel to it is like a Neocities simulator and the character you play as in Slayers X is in the game too, as well as a bunch of other stuff too. I'd recommend listening to the soundtracks of both games, even if you don't want to play either.
