"Of course, of all members of this forum, Ian makes the thread about language."

Discuss languages you are learning, will be learning, or want to learn.

I can help suggest books or online sources if you are new to learning languages.

I am currently learning Icelandic. I am very familiar with the grammar except for weak and strong nouns. I am going to review conjugation and declensions tonight.

Guten morgan. (I think that's how you spell it. :? )

Currently I know English, a little bit of German and Spanish, and some insults in Bulgarian. I can also sing Mary Had a Little Lamb in Japanese. I want to continue learning all the languages mentioned here.

I don't like writer's block, I prefer to call it writer's parry.

I know Estonian, English, flawed Russian and a bit of Finnish. I want to improve on the last two and I plan on learning Italian in the near future, because I have some distant roots leading to Italy.

I want to learn Russian and Japanese. (don't bother posting resources for them for me, I have many at my disposal already)

Morgen. ;)

I know Estonian,

My grandmother's parents were Estonian. I have a book, but I'm not too compelled to learn the language. I believe Finnish and Estonian are in the same language family? If not, then similar? (Finno-Ugric)

Dzień dobry, koledzy! :)

Heh, My native language is polish, I know english pretty well, but not perfectly. I learn german in school but I used to suck at it (after being a Medic in TF2 I think I'll change it quickly bucause I actually like that lignuage :P) and I know a little japaneese.

EDIT: And I know the Australian slang! x)

Me too. Precisely, I've forgotten enough Spanish to basically be entirely non-functional with it, but retained enough to recognize it when I see it and try to see if the other people speak English.

I would enjoy learning German, or maybe Russian, Latin would be cool too.

Estonian is like a newer and simplified version of Finnish.

Compare the numbers (1,2,3,4,5) : yksi, kaksi, kolme, neljä, viisi vs: üks, kaks, kolm, neli, viis.

See what I mean ;)

Know English, and I know a little bit of Spanish. It's the only other language that interests me.

I know a little Spanish because I didn't have a choice.

If I were to learn another language at this late date, it would probably be Scots Gaelic.

Or Klingon.

He just kept talking and talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no one had a chance to interrupt it was really quite hypnotic...

Gàidhlig? 'S mise Ian. Ciamar a tha thu?

I have a book, and I've memorized some basic phrases. My full name is a completely Anglicized Scottish name. My full name is so Scottish, that it was an example in my book!

I actually purchased one for my friend's birthday a few weeks ago. It had a great introduction to the language's grammar and offered kanji/hiragana/katakana sentence with romaji under it. I will ask my friend for the title of the book.

Here is the book on Amazon: Basic Japanese Grammar

But might not be right too, I always was bad in any language anyway. :D

Well, I only speak german and english, both pretty much equally bad and good.

I would like to learn japanese, just to read raw manga or to understand animes.

But I never got around to do it and so far only learned the few words you can

pick up watching subbed anime. :)

So, to all of you: BAKA! :D
