So I just realized that there are no checkpoints in Deus Ex. I raged when I was sent back to the very beginning of the level.

Manual saves are your friend.

 

The new DXHR has a combination of checkpoint saves, quick saves, and regular saves. 2 checkpoint saves, so you can load the most recent checkpoint, or the one before the most recent checkpoint. Best savegame setup of any game I've ever played.

To be honest, platformers are probably my favorite genre, and I've always hated the wonky cameras in them. And Alice comes disturbingly close to my ideal platformer with a camera that's really good.
