Actually that's a good question to put here, I don't think it's been asked before:

When you first heard about the ponies and them being popular, what was your reaction, and what were your thoughts as you were going...well, brony?

Like for me, when I first saw them I didn't really know what to think. I mostly just passed over them not really thinking. As I started seeing them more I was wondering just what is it with this MLP stuff? Then I started using the forums and, from all the ponies here, my interest was peaked. Eventually I started looking at video clips but not sure if I really wanted to get into it. But eventually I was just like, "Screw it." and started watching it. And I haven't stopped since.

I first saw them... on a website and had no idea what they were considering it was a humanized image. Eventually I saw them on.. another website and decided to watch the first episode just for a laugh. Something along those lines, my memory is a little hazy. I never really considered it weird, there's a lot of stuff out that's way more "weird" than ponies.

First encounter, slight curiosity. Wondered why it was being posted on the internet, considering the "tough guy" act every nerd tries to take. It started appearing more and more which, at the time, annoyed me a bit. Then, one day in the binary thread(I miss that thread) one of the posts was the link to S1E1. First thing I did when reading the name of the video was close that as fast as I could. Then a thought crossed my mind, "What on bloody earth is so fascinating about this show that guys are spamming it on the internet." So I went back.

Now here's where the conversion started. I felt REALLY uneasy the first 2 episodes, constantly saying to myself, "Why am I doing this, why why why." and had a lot of nervous laughs at the "cute" moments. but among all that, there was another feeling I got: I liked what I saw. A lot. The humor was actually on an intelligent level and made me laugh(truly, not nervously), the colors were bright and produced good feelings, yet not bright enough to hurt my eyes, and the animation was smooth and very fluid. More than can be said for SOME cartoons these days. Over time, the uneasiness of watching it disappeared completely. The music that also made me uncomfortable to listen to, I now hum when they start. And the D'aww moments don't make me chuckle nervously, but actual D'aww.

Someone started a thread on my old forum (ask BraveTriforcer, he was there too) with the title "Friendship is Magic," and the post only said "I thought we needed one here" and a pic of Pinkie and I think Goku. I enjoyed looking at all the pony versions of random stuff and posted there when I found one, but I never watched the show. The first show I tried watching was the cutie mark chronicles, and I gave up. Then everyone said "well, yeah, everyone hates CMC episodes." After seeing the sonic rainboom matched with Guille's theme I gave the show another shot. I forget which one I watched first, but Sonic Rainboom and Suited for Success were the first two that got me hooked (The same first 2 that I showed to my Dad later). You get totally sucked into the excitement of Sonic Rainboom, and Suited for Success has a great song and is about client-designer relations, something you don't normally see even in adult stuff. I watched the rest of season 1 in a weekend.

As a Flash animator and son of an animator/filmmaker, I had a reasonable excuse to watch the show, which helped me come to terms with bronyism. The show is only a part of the reason I'm a brony though (there are episodes I've only watched once), the community is so accepting and so huge and so clever and, luckily for me, so local. I've met a few bronies and even went to a meetup. EqD moved from "other bookmarks" to homepage in a matter of weeks, and I "went public" on facebook when I posted my PMV (see my sig) a month ago. Though I love being part of the community, I do feel at times it overtakes my life. Half the conversations I have with my Dad are pony related (he thinks its a good show and is amused/amazed by the community, but is not a brony).

Sorry about the wall of text, but I've practically got this rehearsed just in case it comes up (which it has).

TL;DR: My old forum did it, and I like being a brony, even if it is controlling my life.

Well, my first time seeing anything pony related was on Failbook, where some guy went on a super educated rant on a friend about all the characters and what made them badass. I hadn't realized that this was from the new series, as the last trace of ponies I had seen was G3. I also thought he guy was a girl, a nerdy retro girl talking about her childhood. I didnt think much of it after that, until I started seeing a familiar name from the post "Rainbow Dash" popping up in various forms around the internet and thought "This show is pretty popular. But whatever, let geeks be geeks," considering I was a geek, and I new it. Then, when I saw the Ponyville server on TF2, I started doing a little research. I checked youtube for a few things, first being exposed to the animation. i also was exposed to the fandom, with how much the fanbase loved them. The first musician I came across was PinkiePieSwear, and that was awesome. So, I decided to see what the fuss was about and, as I'd expected, after searching and playing the first two episodes, I found them to be a little girly. But, I also realized how amazing they were for their qualities, instantly dubbing Dash as my favorite. I then watched 12 episodes over the span of that one night, some on demand, some on my sisters laptop. The other 14 I watched throughout the week on her iPod. Once I got to Dragonshy, I was done with Dash. Fluttershy was new best pony and nothing was gonna change it. I instantly dove into the community, reading fics to alleviate my insatiable hunger for something ponies with a plot to it. I started listening to music, attempting to draw (those drawings were god-awful) and then, writing my own fiction. I found this thread in the FFA (I never came here before. I only posted in the Valve forum) and now I'm the 12th highest poster in the forum.) I never had a problem with being a brony, as I had been a huge pokemon shipper before, so I knew this was another thing for me to fall in love with and I accepted it, wholeheartedly. It did take me a while to be more open about it though.

I guess I should jump in too.

I first found out about ponies around January. I was looking for images for my signature on another forum (not using google images) and came across this forum board with a person that had a "forever a brony" tag in his signature. This was back when I didn't even care for TF2, I didn't start until I came across AF.

Anyway, about 3 weeks after, I went to play CS:S and someone's spray had Pinkie Pie in it, so I decided to Google it.

That's how I discovered ponies.

I joined the BMS forums a few months after (in May, 3 days before I made my first AF account and lost the password for it.) and there was quite alot of Bronies there. I think about 13 or 14. I was fairly neutral about it, but I still wondered why people loved it so much. So I joined AF again a month after because I was bored of the BMS forum. Only post I remember making there was a rickroll that I said to be a fan-made trailer.

Anyway, I found this thread on AF the day after I joined, and then I joined the forum war thing as an anti-brony because the thread seemed rather fun.

And it was.

After a month of anti-bronyin', My birthday came up, and I asked for the link to one of the episodes of MLP. I was a closet brony until the 1st of August, about a day after my Moonbase alpha game with sublime and abg.

I guess you could say I received MLP as a birthday gift. /)^3^(\

I started shortly after season 1 was finished. At first I noticed a joke thread on the Telltale Games forums about a confirmed My Little Pony game by Telltale (even one of the employees joined in). Not to long after, I noticed how nearly all Team Fortress 2 related videos I watched had a Friendship is Magic related suggestion and after a while of getting pony video suggestions on the home page I decided to give it a watch. As you probably guessed I liked what I saw and kept watching. As for talking about it, well I'm not really much of a talker anyway so I don't tend to bring up what I watch without being asked.

I think I got introduced to it during summer vacation. I was browsing Youtube and came across some Pony vids and I enjoyed them right away(the fact that it was MLP didn't itch me to much, since I have learned that on the internet many things don't make as much sense as you'd think they would). Then I downloaded 6hours worth of episodes and watched them because my life is so damn interesting and time consuming. At first I didn't really get to much of the fandom but then I returned to the Farms and saw there was a FiM thread and over time I slowly started to listen to Pony music, visit EQD and all those shenanigans. And that is my story of Ponyification.

Yeah, that's what I really don't get about the hate with MLP. Not only that they just don't like it, but 'it's a show for little girls'. You'd think being on the internet long enough would teach you that, stranger things have happened! I fail to see how grown men watching My Little Pony is a bigger deal than grown men drawing porn of My Little Pony, which has gone on for far, FAR, longer.

I'm fairly certain that's only true for the technical reasons of Rule 34. There's a lot more now than there was before FiM.

Well I can accept that some people might not like FiM just like with any other show. But why do they need to be such big jerks about it?

Because they're special and everyone must hate what they hate.

I remember the first real pony thing I saw was the Applejack skin for the engineer. After that I saw some weird loop of Rarity screaming "at the top of her lungs". Some time passed and I found the Know Your Meme video about My Little Pony. It's a little weird because I sort of didn't want to like it in the beginning. I remember controlling my curiosity because I knew that I was gonna like it in the end. But in the beginning of November I couldn't really control my curiosity anymore. I watched the whole 1st season in about a week, completely ignoring the first few bad ones (they're kinda bad, I think).

But yeah that's my pony story and I'm stickin' to it.

Ummm, I read the VGCats comic on the topic. I was like "oh, ok." I didn't get it and just dimissed it because I am a tolerant person. Then I heard one of my friends talking about it. He had never watched it but said it was worked on by the same person who also worked on Foster's and PPG, I know now her as Lauren Faust. So a couple months passes and it was now summer. I had lost contact with my friends from school and remembered that moment. I thought, "Hey yeah... That sounds like a good way to pass the time." I opened youtube and found the first episode. I watched and was intrigued. And then, the rest is the future.

I suppose its also worth mentioning I started visiting the forum at the time.

They call me Snake. They call me Es Rake. They call me Srahkay. That's nahmaname. That's nahmaname. That's not my... name.
