As I am intelligent, and knew which colors would get the desired effect for my character, I did not make this mistake.

EqD posted something a while back about spotting people who just write about themselves in pony form, and one of the tell tale signs was unnatural colors. The only fan-fic I read (TtEoAP) features a dark grey pony with a mane with each of the colors of fire, and the pony versions of musicians like Mike the Mic and Wooden Toaster have multicolored hair (a rare thing in the show). People just want their ponies to stand out, because to the authors, they are the most important ponies. They feel this should be reflected in their appearance.

 

I have personally never made OC or author insert, simply because there are so many background ponies you could make stories for, but if I were to make one, I'd certainly keep it in the show's aesthetic. Probably Lyra Green or Dash Blue.

I have an OC designed which I'm currently mid process of vectoring but it's nothing more than a light tan color with a faded red mane and tail. No stories revolve around it, it's just something I'm doing cuz I'm bored.

 

I also don't really mind the more colorful(in mic the mic/woodentoaster sense) OC's because I like how the creative one's look, it's just the super-saturated ones that occasionally get put in my Deviation box on DA that I find a little annoying.

I used dual hair colors in mine because it was easier to get his base color scheme. Yellow hair alon doesn't look that good...

On the subject of pony hair color, am I the only one that thinks that Fluttershy with Black n pink hair from the "She's a Pony" Remix by WoodenToaster looks awesome?

I made an OC (a self insert one no less) by using sprites from Desktop Ponies. Also I think I should bring up that my only GIF making tool is Animation Shop Pro 3.

There isn't really much else due to my lack of artistic talent. Also notice how I covered the flank so I didn't have to give myself a Cutie Mark.

Yea, It looks nice, and her expression helps it, but it's kind of like a different pony entirely. She's supposed to be soft, pastel colors, not scene.
