I understand. It can be a hard thing to come to terms with. I didn't become a brony until long after becoming familiar with my old forum's pony thread, so I didn't really have to go through that. Like I said, it can be a bit overwhelming, but just keep up with this thread and visit our suggestions when you feel like it. No rush.

 

semi-related: I found out that the guy who runs the central Wisconsin brony group hasn't "come out of the stable" to his family. Kind of sad, but sometimes you just can't, and that's okay.

Also if you want to know what by far the best thing this fandom (and possibly the hole of humanity) has made? Well it's the mlp fanfic Fallout Equestria! It is the best thing I have ever read.

Anyways, don't do grimdark stuff. I don't really like it and you, as a new member, shouldn't go to it.

 

However, I can't say I experienced whst you are going through during my conversion. Mine was quick and seamless. I merely watched the show, thought it was great, and started scoring the internet for more pony content. I was never ashamed of it, really. Though, at first, I was a bit closeted, I found a group of brony friends at school that immediately boosted my confidence and, eventually, got me to give my soeech in front of my AP English class (For those of you who Were here for that, I forgot to tell you my grade on it: 98% bitches)

 

So yea, I'd been used to liking different stuff (Pokemon shipping had been a thing for me back when I was 10-ish) so I honestly didn't care about "social repercussions." I liked it and that's all that mattered to me. That's how I think anyone should feel about their choices in life (so long as they aren't morally wrong)

Cuz that's what makes me ME! I wouldn't be much of a Rarity if I wasn't ramming my oversized head into other's business. (also my absence has been due to summer guests finding a surprising number of things for me to do.)

 

As for grimdark, we aren't forcing him to. Just saying if he's ever curious, we have the resources available. (which is odd, because when I joined I hated and avoided grimdark like the plague.)

On Grimdark: I only partially avoid it. Fallout Equestria is the only straighforward grim dark I have read/enjoyed. I liked the Cupcakes animation, but that was goofy grimdark not serious grimdark, and I follow the grimdark Big Mac tumblr, but the joke is that it's not really grimdark at all.

 

Then again, grimdarkness is really associated with fanfics, and I don't really read fanfics. In fact, I realised the other day that I have read as many fanfics as I have written/edited (3).

 

The Avengers favorites: Hulk is fluttershy, as said earlier; Captain America would be Applejack(faithful, loyal, straightforward, and no magic, like him); Iron man is most similar to Rainbow Dash in his extremeness and pride, but his favorite would be Twilight because she's smart and incredibly powerful or Pinkie because they do whatever they want; Thor would be another fluttershy fan because all the rest would just get on his nerves; Black Widow would like Rarity because of her subtle nature and similar interrogation techniques; Hawkeye I don't know, none of them are really his style.
