There's a lot more strategy and variation in Hearthstone the deeper you get into it but it takes a bit too long to reach that point imo.

If the vast majority is unable to access more strategy and variation then those aspects practically aren't there.

 

I feel Hearthstone has actually done an excellent job at "casualizing" card games. If you poke around the Hearthstone community you'll notice that the group of "core Hearthstoners"(can't really think of a better term, but I think you know what I mean) is rather sizable. Keeping the core mechanics simple and introducing cards slowly unto the player(instead of dropping it all at once) really makes it all easier to get into deeper than other card games.
