Could you elaborate on that?

Minimum Ram on WIndows 7 is 2 Gb! And rumours are the next one is going to be four to push people to buying unnecessary ram.

 

Hence I have Windows Xp for now and waiting for that yet unknown miracle company to make a compatible OS.

Bjossi, I wouldn't consider 64 mb Ram murderous requirements a decade ago. Back then I believe 1 Gb Ram was optimally max.

 

Windows 7 though, with 2gb is forcing everyone to buy One third and at the time of it's release, one half of the maximum optimal amount you can really have.

 

With 6gb now being the optimal maximum.

64 MB makes XP practically unusable without tweaking and sacrifices. Microsoft recommend 128 MBs for a reason, and I would say 256 MB is good for comfortable use.

 

And 256 MB was optimal back then, not 1 GB. You'd only see 512 MB or higher on enthusiast PCs.

4-6 GB is optimal today, but it is not all that expensive to install 12+ GBs of RAM on your system.

I stick to the statement that Ram is used on very stupid updates in Windows 7, and in general I hate windows 7. I've had it for a year, so I know what I'm talking about. All my friends also hate windows 7.

I agree that Windows is bloated as hell, I was the one who made the original statement after all, but 7 is not any less reasonable today than XP was in 2001. I have used Win7 for 10 months now and I have absolutely no problems with it except for some accessibility issues.

I have Win7 and I've had no problems with it. I'm interested in what Google has planned in their Chrome OS.

What I heard a long while ago was that it will be kind of net-centric, your data hosted on a remote server for example.

The Google Chrome OS looks cool, but for having everything out there on a web server, I really worry about privacy issues for some people. It is designed with the typical person in mind though, and for non-gamers/programmers/professionals it looks to be an exceptional OS.

I use Windows 7 and honestly, I can't complain about it. I have 4 gigs of RAM (which was specifically designed for my CPU) and that seems more than enough for it.

I'm still on XP, but I plan to go to 7 in the near future. I won't be doing so until I have a VMware install so for programs that simply won't run on 7, I still have options. Apparently if you have enough RAM now, the speed hit for virtualized programs is quite reasonable.
