ROSS'S GAME DUNGEON: HELLGATE LONDON

wait wait don't get cheat engine from the website itself, it sucks, it has this fucking retarded installer with malware bundled in it

Eek bundleware?  Is it optional during the install or mandatory?    I'll whip open a VM.

EDIT:  Well f** it bundles InstallCore and you are not given an option to opt out.  Your consent is hidden far down in the EULA you agree to.  That's beyond a dark pattern of automatically ticking something by default, that's flat out misleading and deceptive.

Having a title on the EULA saying one thing and then another unrelated thing halfway down it violates simple & old-fashioned reading comprehension rules; you can't claim people are legitimately consenting if you hide soul-contracts in the restaurant menu.

Thankyou for the cleaner build links Ratchet.

this is supposed to be a "funny joke" but i think it's in really bad taste and i can see some people taking it in the wrong way

Is it just the 'licence expiry' notice?

In general: humour of all types will be taken in bad taste by some people, it's something you have to live with.  Everyone has different rulesets on how it does or does not belong in software/media/art/hardware/etc.  You should have seen some of the stuff my coworkers used to hide in their software; oh god!

This is like a videogame version of The Good Place. In the end of the episode you're describing the hell version of The Good Place series!!

This game... Oh man, this game.

They did some amazing world-building, to the extent that it's a bit baffling how little of that made it into the game itself. The Hell-blimp flying things, for example, are a type of demonic wildlife called an "exospector". They're mindless, aren't predatory, and apparently mostly serve as a sort of terraforming system to turn Earth into something more comfortable for the demons.

At one point in the game, there's a quest chain to shoot one down so a science crew can study it or something. You have to man a bunch of janky AA popguns that felt a lot weaker than they should have, with a weird interface a bit like the RTS-lite section where Ross ordered small waves of NPC troopers to push forward along a street. Once the exospector was down, you entered it to see how it worked on the inside, and the structure was - surprise, surprise - another type of recycled level: the instance used the same xenomorph ribbed-tunnel style like when the player went in to destroy that unlucky NPC's mind.

It's a cool concept, but the game just never really lived up to it.

Sounds pretty dumb. They can field massive fleets of FTL warships ...

It does. And it's not how it works in WH40k.
The empire of man relies mostly on ranged weaponry as you would expect, guardsmen all have laser rifles with bayonets and space marines mostly use bolters, plasma guns etc. Melee is either a backup or a specialty, e.g. space marine assault squads use bolt pistols and chainswords (and bombs), they close in using jetpacks and disrupt enemy lines.
Of course Orks just love getting into melee, so there it is more prevalent.
Rule of cool did have a big say in Warhammer but they managed to come up with decent in-universe explanation for most things.

Anyway, Hellgate is tedious but I did finish it with that drone class. You just need upgraded napalm launcher and a lot of patience.

I remember this being one of 3 games i was really looking forward to back in 2007 because of their interesting premise or setting, the other 2 being Clive Barker's Jericho and Tabula Rasa by Lord Englishman.
But in the end i never got around to playing any of those games, and from what i gathered they all had issues (like Tabula Rasa's servers shutting down a year later) or were just not all that great.

Tabula Rasa by Lord Englishman.

That was one I was REALLY wanting to play, since one of the pre-launch trailers was amazing... Sadly I can't even find the video anywhere now.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

Well, this was the trailer that piqued my interest:

That's the shorter version of the video that got me interested. The one I saw had all that, and a about a minute and a half of gameplay.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

Am I alone, who wants to lock Ross in a room, not a fancy one, but like they use in guantanamo prison - square 2x2 space with a toilet and a computer. Provide the cheapest and unhealthiest food in his cell, like burgers but with all vegetables removed and candies, and sugar high cola for thirst. And give him a message that he will be released only when he play through the game 5 times, complete all the achievements and do that withing 7 days, or count will be reset.

And then after he complete the task I want to look in his eyes from behind bulletproof glass.

Yes! That's the most infuriating thing about the game. At the very least the class-specific equipment helps a little to give the world character. But there is almost nothing else. The characters are all extremely bland and don't have much to say on the actual world. And the only faction we learn anything about whatsoever, are the Templars. The Hunters and Cabbalists are basically just "there" and I think the Cabbalists have one or two characters where their association is at least noticeable.

Ah no, it would be fine if he made it through once. I really don't know why he had so much trouble with it. Maybe it's just tougher with a Summoner? I didn't have much trouble with my Engineer and even less with a Guardian. I will try to report back once I get to my playthrough with the Evoker. Not quite the same, but at the very least the same item selection.
