This game seems appealing and considering my profound love for old shooters like "doom" and "quake" and alike, i find myself turned off to this game slightly. i have recently with the help of "civvie 11" and his you tube  channel; have gotten into a  lot of retro style FPS games made in recent years. But  something about t his game to me gives the impression it is trying way too hard to be "doom 2016" with a mid of "brutal doom". I could be completely wrong as i have not played it myself, it is just a worry i get anytime i think about buying this.

the game is in early access right now. I played it a while back, it's pretty good.

A more updated post since this game has been through a ton of development. Prodeus is a really polished retro FPS throwback game, as mentioned by other commenters, in the style of something more modern. Think less Doom 1993, and more Doom 2016. More of a sci-fi grimy aesthetic. Combat is great, levels are nicely designed too, a variety of different maps with differing playstyles.

 

I was actually shocked at the structure of this game, letting you choose between levels via a top down map screen straight out of Mario World. The game lets you choose your own missions to complete, some of which have weird gimmicks like having you speed run as fast as you can through an obstacle course. Also the robust level editor and online support gives you plenty of player-made levels to choose from.
