but he has to wait the entire boot time, plus that might have fucked up anything else he didn't have saved

Do you not have an SSD? Boot times, and game load times put it right around 30-45 sec to get back in that particular game.

 

If he was gaming with unsaved work running elsewhere on his computer, he deserved anything he lost.
