Malf Hockery series

Recommended Posts

Malf Hockery is, most likely, the second Romanian Machinima series after Little Freemans. It is a parody after Half Life 2 where a Gordon Freeman full of personality relives the story of the game in a funny, twisted way. This Gordon, aside from being the young and brilliant physicist we know, is a narcoleptic. Also, he bears a lot of other bad traits that will reaveal themselves during the series.

Episode 1 - In this episode we find out what caused the accident in the test lab while Gordon tries to find out where he is. He also gives hand to hand combat advice to a metrocop from his children beating experience.

Episode 2 - In this episode Gordon gets bullied by the customs cops and meets up with Barney. We also find out that he enjoys robbing old ladies.

Good script, but I couldn't help but imagine all of Freeman's lines in Ross's voice. As far as I'm concerned he IS the voice of Freeman.

I liked the script but I didn't feel as if there was any feeling in the voice acting, I didn't quite get a couple of the things said as well but overall I liked it.

I don't want to give you the impression that I'm trying to compete with Ross for Freeman's voice or other aspects. I only gave him a voice because it was necessary for this series to happen. I'm trying to turn Half Life 2 from a game into a cinematic experience, a parody movie. Of course, a movie is not all about dialog but it will get more action oriented once I learn more and more about the Source engine. I'm not happy about the fact that Freeman just walks around talking without getting involved in the action but I'll fix that in time. So I hope you will percieve this as a stand alone series because I'm trying to do something different. The reasons I chose the same character as Ross is because of the Source engine (the only one I know how to work with so far), Half Life is my favourite FPS shooter (I'm not much of a gamer but I was impressed with the quality of the story) and Freeman has no personality so I could write one that suits best for my purposes.

Yes, my bad acting is becoming a real problem and I'm really trying to get better. I hoped I could hide it with quality writing, animation, camera work and editing but it seems I have to do something about it. I was really busy with my job these days and couldn't work on Little Freemans so I had no chance of recording my dialog. I only had time to record Starch's lines which are played by Ionuţ Maierean. But this is all for the better as I will spend more time rehearsing and I'm confident that my acting will improve over the next episodes.

I'm not trying to give you the wrong impression. I liked it, I just can't seem to separate any talking Freeman from Ross's character, your lines were in a similar style too. It would've made a good FM episode if Ross had used that script. That's a compliment. Keep it up, and I hope you find a direction that works for you.

Finally, episode 2 is out after another few months of work. In this episode, Gordon gets bullied by the customs cops and meets up with Barney.

Hope you'll also enjoy this episode, it has more interaction and not just Gordon walking around speaking to himself.

As I said in the Little Freemans thread, I'm not going to continue posting new episodes on Ross' forums since I don't feel I should advertise this way. It was necessary for receiving feedback and seeing if people were interested in my work but it's time to have my own website. Until machinima.ro is up and running you can visit my YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/rochinima?feature=mhee where I will post updates on my work. I will still answer any comments here also. Enjoy!
