Rise of the Triad: Dark War

Rise of the Triad (2013)

Shadow Warrior Classic Redux

"I don't trust a man that doesn't have something strange going on about him, cause that means he's hiding it from you. If a man's wearing his pants on his head or if he says his words backwards from time to time, you know it's all laid out there for you. But if he's friendly to strangers and keeps his home spick-and-span, more often than not he's done something even his own ma couldn't forgive." -No-bark Noonan

There was the Star Wars games sale recently, so finnaly bought licensed copies of these two games. It's good that GOG provides floppy, CD and 1998 "remakes". They are very different releases and each have their downsides.

Caves of Qud

It is a firm Love/Hate for me: I found it very intresting at first and couldn't stop playing, but then I sort of hit  a wall in that I didn't feel like like doing anything in the game, but even then I still thought about it costantly while not playing it. I unisnstalle dit and will pick it up again after I cleared my head.

The dev is creating a main quest, which now has 8 of the 10 individual quests. So far the main quest is made so as to expose your character to each system in the game (

Spoiler

combat with melee enemies, combat with ranged enemies, dungeon delving, enviroemental hazards, disease, bosses, reputation, and fungal infection

), each in an unique area.

There is also an implicit progression of zones with ever more dangerous enemies (not just in the sense of higher HP and attack, but new mechanics which need to be understood to defeat them) and ever more powerful loot.

If you care, there is also lore to discover, made with a blend of human writing and procedural generation: how it works is that there are fixed historical characters, but most of what they do and why is procedurally generated, with only their place in time and most important actions being fixed.

Doom Eternal

It's one sale on Steam.

Also got Quake II: Quad Damage and Doom 3: BFG Edition from a sale on GOG.

I didn't buy anything in this Steam sale, but I got Silent Storm Gold Edition a few days ago. Will probably buy something else during the Winter Sale

It is kind of weird buying so many games for so cheap, but it becomes a kind of a tradition for me to buy on sales in GoG games I know and interested in that cost under 1.35USD in my local currency. Some of the games, like Realms of Arkania or Ion Storm was for 0.26$ in local price. Ironically that I care for a lot of these games 100 times more than for a lot of stuff that sold for 60-70$. At the cost of a new big hit game that people preload from hype, you can buy a whole giant library of good classic stuff that will keep you entertained for years.
