Speedruns

Recommended Posts

I know playing games as fast as possible isn't everyone's cup of tea, but many, myself included, have taken an interest in this art, or at least what I consider an art. Many people who create these videos put a lot of time and effort into breaking world records and providing entertainment by completely blowing people's minds. Some of my favorite speedruns are:

I would say the Half-Life speedrun, but there's a new one in progress that'll be 25 minutes.

Do you have any speedruns you enjoy watching?

Yeah speedruns are pretty cool. I like the ones without glitches more though.

Yeah, that's a pretty good site, it's a shame they don't allow runs that use marcos anymore.

All I really know about speedruns is Mike "TSA" has the record for fastest Ocarina of Time playthrough, and that they look tedious to do. Hey, if you can get through a game that long in five hours or something, hats off to ya. Requires an impressive amount of dexterity.

"Cosmo" has the world record on OoT as far as I know.

I still LOL when watching some speed runs, beating ravenholm in 15 seconds, knifing luis on resident evil 4 so he stop delaying the zombies allowing you to just blow them all with grenades, somehow being able to kill koopas from beneath on SMB...

The future of gaming lies in realistic simulations of extraordinary realities

Some of the speed-runs I've seen through Portal and Portal maps are frankly insane.

Feel free to PM me about almost anything and I'll do my best to answer. :)

I'm still jealous of those who can backwards bunny-hop in HLE2 and Portal.

This is a nice metric server. No imperial dimensions, please.

It's not all too hard, it's called ABH (Advanced Back Hop) There's tons of tutorials on how to do it on youtube.

From what I understand, many people who do Speedruns do so out of a discipline for how they find their fun, like skateboarders or parkour, in which practice and intense training (or research if applicable) are the differences between a second gained or a second lost.

Indeed. I would definitely call it a sport of sorts.

I would definitely call it a sport of sorts.

I would call it a massive waste of time and resources.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

Wasting time and resources on Video Games being played with unparalleled skill in efficiency and speed, compared to simply wasting time and resources on just Video Games.

What a wonderful juxtaposition.

Best worst speed run I ever watched was for Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System. I think it was 3+hours.. alot of it just fighting the same sea monster to level up. Remember that game from childhood. Whole family played for weeks calling sega for hints and tricks.. Terrible.

That is exactly how I see it. I cannot simply play HL2 regularly anymore, with speedrunning, you're constantly trying to find new ways to improve upon yourself, and I love doing it, it adds a whole new level of replayability to a game I've played thousands of times, not only that, but playing games at such speed is so much fun. We're sometimes considered the athle(e)tes of the gaming world.
