Convert to PNG. (PNG is lossless, but compressed) Unless you're talking about animations...

Well, I'm not very good at drawing... I have some skill as an editor and I like to make animated gifs for my signature. I don't think this can be called art, but some of them look good. The credit for the images goes entirely to the real makers.

Then you need to get CS5 with the SWF plugin... That can convert to a decent quality GIF for you...

But I think if you have the option availible to you, choose a different dithering logarithm because that one mashes the color somewhat.
