This is a PSA because I don't want it to get lost in another topic, and lose people who have tried the previous version and gave up on it earlier this year.

Slain! has been rebranded has Slain: Back from Hell and has a ton of fixes, better and more gothic-metal dialogue, more music, enhanced gameplay etc. etc.. It's basically a fully fleshed game now.

It should also come to GoG very soon and it's basically DRM free as it is - the Steam version only has Steamworks.

If you're new to this game, it's a metal-themed retro hack and slash. Its main attractions are the soundtrack, which mainly consists of guitar riffs from Celtic Frost's Curt Victor Bryant, and the visuals - every screenshot can a metal album cover.

Also, fair warning - it's a bit on the hard side, but it's not Nintendo hard.

Price of the game + DLC: $20.

The combat looks like a major improvement. It's a shame that their still using that generic metal soundtrack though. Are the devs going to be revamping the soundtrack as well? I would love to see something along the lines of Painkiller's soundtrack for this game. As it stands Slain's soundtrack kinda kills the mood for me but it's not a deal breaker since I'm more than impressed by the revamped combat system.

I'm not saying I started the fire. But I most certain poured gasoline on it.

They've added more tracks to fit the moodier situations (I think one of the towers has a piano medley, for instance), but as far as I know, they're not totally revamping it.

But if you want to supplement the soundtrack, just play any heavy metal album from your library in the background and turn the music down. From my experience, Black Sabbath, Eluveitie and Tiamat fit the mood.

I should see if I can get Slain to play Painkiller's OST. All I'd probably need to do is change the filenames for Painkiller's OST and swap them out with Slain's OST. That might make for an interesting project once I get Slain.
