Games you used to love, but now hate

We all have that one game that we used to love at one point, but later grew sick and tired of it, like how Ross used to enjoy Half Life, but got burned out with it after working on Freeman's Mind. After hearing about that, I thought it'd be interesting to have a topic about people sharing that game they used to love but now were wondering "what was I thinking when I played that thing?". I'll go first:

As a kid. I used to play this video game tie-in of Power Rangers Light Speed Rescue for PS1. I thought it was awesome, a group of people in coloured spandex kicking asses. I used to play it 'til I lost my PS1. After a decade, I finally got around to playing it again through an emulator... and the nostalgia died after 5 minutes of playing. The gameplay felt boring, the controls didn't suit me well, there were glitches etc. ADHD version: the game i used to love playing stopped being fun.

So anyway, what are those games that you've loved and lost?

Welp, now what?

Warcraft 3, back when I was first getting into RTS games I thought this was a great game, later on I learned a few of it's things were a bit broken like economy and it's rather easy even on hard so I just shruged that all off

then I played it again, because I remember it's story being good

Ohboy, was that game's writing really bad.

For me, it's Kingdom Hearts. The entire series, not just the first game.

I remembered it through nostalgia-goggles with Disney taking a much more prominent role. Instead, whenever I replayed it, I saw more and more insanity intertwined with Square-Enix written dialogue. I now take the Disney part of it as just cameos (and bad ones, at that), instead of the 50-50 relationship I saw in the beginning.

For all it's worth, I remember also going through it almost on autopilot. It rarely had any situations which required tactical thinking, and being almost completely numb through it might've had some part in me just not remembering its convoluted bat-shit plot.

Maybe not as far as full-on hate, but certainly a game I used to love, but have strongly fallen out of favour with is Enter The Matrix.

I remember thinking it was awesome when I was 12.

I played it again last year. Oh god. The driving sections.

This game is broken. The action is dodgy, the music and audio rarely works. The difficulty spikes so that Easy is the only manageable setting. The dialogue is pretty arse too.

That said I only played Ghost's campaign last year. I'll probably do Niobe's this year, and get much the same results.

PayDay 2. Used to love it, but I played it with my ex all the time. So much. And it's all we would ever friggin play. XD So, I got sick of it. And not to mention, it's really turned to shit cause the developers are weird and on drugs or something. I dunno.

The Commandos series.

Used to be 'awesome' when I played them new, but I can't even get through the first mission anymore without falling through the 'meh' floor.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

again, not so much hate, especially for game itself, but rocket league. Broken matchmaking and worst community in whole gaming do that. SP portion is way too easy as well

For me, I have a repeating cycle of loving and hating Maplestory for a couple of years. When I first played it, I was like 7, and it was the best game ever. The graphics were great, the style of a 2D platformer made the game fun and easy to understand for any noob, the community was friendly enough, there was no shitty story to follow just you being on an adventure, THE PEACEFUL MUSIC, AHHHhhh...

Maplestory was pretty fun, then I grew bored of it, mainly because there were other games, but when I came back, I realized that Nexon (The creator) ruined the game by making it more grindy, the community became more antisocial and full of hackers, they added a shitty story that you had to follow, and shit classes that they called "Heroes", that were basically a stylised class that had overpowered stats, the game was ruined for me.

I still hopped on and off until my account was deleted because it was too old (If you lived in Singapore, you needed to put your ID in to play), so I stopped and felt like Maplestory was ruined forever.

I just hopped back in 3 months ago with a new account HELP ME I MIGHT BE ADDICTED

The Guitar Hero/Rock Band series

They were alright for a while. I got to know bands because of them, but my hand-eye coordination kicked me in the ass, especially in Hard mode. I lost interest as I started playing actual guitar. I regained some interests recently when i found out that people are ripping songs from those games to make multitracks.

Welp, now what?

And for the controversial entry.

Fallout 3.

I used to play this for unhealthy amount of time. Like as much as I'd played morrowind or oblivion. Then just one day, I fired up the game, and I immediately got this sense of "I'd rather be doing anything but" and every time I try to go back to it I get this annoyed feeling of wanting to be doing something else. I can't bring myself to enjoy the game anymore and I can't even say why.

Mortal Kombat X.

When this thing first came out, I fell in love with it almost instantly. The combat was great, there were some really awesome new characters were cool and the Fatalities were still creative. But the more I played, the more I started to notice how substandard of an effort was put into it. It's story mode sucked, so many ridiculous transactions, lacking in content in general, too much cashgrabby DLCs. I don't really look at it in a good light as much as I used to in the past.

Actually Yngwie of Haus Malmsteen, feefty eenches of pure Svwedish beef.

I think Minecraft suffers from its userbase and fans. A bit like Portal. It tarnishes your view about the game. So many kids braying for Markiplier to bring back Drunk Minecraft, even though he's said on multiple occasions he can no longer drink alcohol for medical reasons.

i can agree with title, due to fact that it had so little support on pc and its newer characters wont arrive on pc.

Eh, fair enough. Some games you can just end up burning yourself out on.

I can't really think of any games I hate that I used to love. My taste has stayed pretty consistent.

Fallout 3 is pretty much the worst game Bethesda has made imo.

I'd say the same thing, but for New Vegas. I liked it, but as i kept playing, I get this "what now?" feeling in my head, like I should be doing else. I tried reigniting my interest by trying one of the DLC's, Dead Money, but I got caught in a glitch that got me stuck in one of the missions. I gave up at that point. As for Fo3, it's been a while since I last played, but i hope i can get back to that and not get the same reaction as i had with New Vegas.

A few in a row that are just the result of playing a game too much... Kinda figures. I've never hit that point with a Bethesda game, but I've done that with just about every linear game I've ever actually liked. For example, most of the Halo series. I got back into Halo 3 for a little bit, and I found myself wishing it had some procedural generation or something because I knew the location of every enemy in the game, exactly what strategies worked best for me, and breezed through the entire game despite not having played it in five years. It didn't challenge me on any difficulty but legendary, and even on legendary the difficulty provided wasn't of the fun variety. That's not any fault of the game, but I just played it way entirely too much and it bores me now. Same goes for the original Half-Life.
