Birthday thread: Soundtracks

Recommended Posts

I was browsing more of the soundtracks on my hard drive and remembered these gems:

Corporate Lifestyle Simulator: Now I know what you are thinking, "Is this another one of those Goat Simulator games?", and I can happily say that it isn't, although it is a comedy game. Basically it's a zombie bash em' up in an office space, and by zombies, it means managers, evil managers that try to eat your face.

Link for the soundtrack: https://bignic.bandcamp.com/album/zombies

Also, part of the soundtrack also appears on the Leathal League (Think Smash Bros but crossed with dodgeball) which is also quite enjoyable.

Link to the aforementioned soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nfeh39hydK4

Freedom Planet: Im not quite sure if someone has already mentioned this, but this soundtrack is also excellent. The game is basically the best follow-up to the Sonic 1-3 games that's been made, really going for the Sega Saturn like aesthetic.

Here's some soundtracks you may or may not have even heard off, they're pretty good, they're sort of medieval type of soundtracks, as if the music was made using magic, wooo.

Now, i'm not exactly sure if you'll like any of these as they're full OST's, cause everyone has their preference on at least one of them in the entire soundtrack (personally i love em all)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlLhjc8YJjg - Unepic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcjywV9echw - Heroes of might and magic 5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obK-k848Vto - heroes of might and magic 4

and here's some uhhh, GLA music

Have fun!

I take it you like Party Hard? The OST is pretty damn good.

Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon and Defy Gravity (it's super cheap!) are also electro and VERY nice to listen to.

As for more non-game OSTs, take a look at Mushishi (it's an anime), the music is out of this world and works perfectly with playing games like Stalker, where you explore interesting areas.

All Katamari soundtracks have good songs, but I'd start with the first one, Katamari Damacy/Damashii.

A tip for when you need something moody and atmospheirc to listen to, King's Field IV.

Hey Ross, check out the E.Y.E: Divine Cybermycy soundtrack. These are great ambient tracks with a cool sci-fi theme.

It can be downloaded from the official site here:

http://eye.streumon-studio.com/index.php?page=music

The game is pretty great too. It's an FPS-RPG hybrid, it has some elements from Deus Ex and System Shock 2 and some great combat.

I also recommend these soundtracks:

Thief: The Dark Project

Thief II: The Metal Age

Hitman: Codename 47

Hitman: Silent Assassin

I'm thinking these can be procured by getting the GOG.com versions of the games.

One of the best and weirdest Soundtracks I ever heard was the one for Earth 2140, a polish RTS game from 1997.

It was set in a post-apocalyptic world yet had some really odd tunes.

There is a

. I will also pick out some of my favourite songs from it so you can get a feel of it.

Groovy Main Theme:

1dtoESMLLoY

This one was used in both Faction's first missions since it's more or less the only one that fits the game's theme, so it's a good start.

Porn Music?:

9E-Cjip2nn4

This one starts around the 1 minute mark. It's extremely weird to play a game in a radioactive wasteland and suddenly hearing this play. On the other hand it does create a nice contrast. It's very relaxing and I'd like to think this is what people listen to to get away from the horrifying reality of living in a destroyed world.

Harmonic Jungle Music:

RH9RVnsq2hY

Happy tunes and bird sounds. It makes me wonder if the people who made the music were even aware what kind of game this was supposed to be and just threw in whatever they had.

And finally he's a video which features the brilliant intro as well as one of the first faction missions so you can get a feel of what the game is actually like.

1jeczBf3D2I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?start=467&v=1jeczBf3D2I

I also forgot to mention. The complete soundtrack should be in the GoG version of the game. I also found a site where you could download them individually but I wasn't sure if that is entirely legal. If you just google "Earth 2140 soundtrack" it should be one of the first results though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obK-k848Vto - heroes of might and magic 4

Congrats, you beat me to it :D Almost..

1. I'm a massive fan of the turn-based rpg "Heroes of Might and Magic III", so respectively I will post my favorites:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7PddNlM8kY - Heroes 3 - Stronghold theme

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x20AFkjaZqo - Heroes 3 - Fortress theme

(link to the mp3s, taken directly from the game files > https://www.dropbox.com/s/llo10rlmp35ggf2/heroes%203.rar?dl=0)

2. Next one is also a favorite of mine - the soundtrack of the first town from the rpg "The Temple of Elemental Evil":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnSVmJAhObk - ToEE - village of Hommlet

(link for a free download - http://www.mp3lio.net/mp3/Temple+of+the+Elemental+Evil - the first song)

3. The next one is not from a game, but from an artist called Neurotech. The guy does industrial/electronic metal and has a few instrumentals that are quite awesome. Here are some examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI6CfmJsuDk - Neurotech - The Elysium Symphony

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQb4AEPZqjs - Neurotech - The Halcyon Symphony

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7DZcknntb8 - Neurotech - The Ophidian Symphony

Among his stuff there are a few shorter instrumental tracks, but I think these here are enough. Free download of albums and mp3s at http://neurotech.bandcamp.com/.

4. Cycerin - an artist who once did music for Newgrounds back in the day for various games (that I haven't even played...found this guy on last.fm some years ago):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1InEKwhZaHE - Cycerin - In Pursuit of Justice

Hope you enjoyed

Heya Ross, happy birthday!

Here's a few game soundtracks from the early 2000s that I like and don't see mentioned online much, or at all. I'm including youtube playlists as a preview, as I couldn't find them for sale anywhere.

Discworld: Noir - adventure game from 2001 based on the Discworld series of novels by Terry Pratchett, with film noir aesthetic and atmosphere. The soundtrack consists of short looping environment themes, but also features a few jazz/blues tracks. I mean, obviously, it's right there in the name. I can't find the game new on sale anywhere, and the same goes for the soundtrack. Soundtrack's by Paul Weir, in case you like it or if anyone wants to get in touch with him, maybe he has a way to get a legit copy or something, Iunno how these things work. If not, a short google search shows MP3's available around.

Favourites: Lewton's Office, Cafe Ankh, The Streets of Ankh-Morpork.

I like these: Temple of the Small Gods, Main Title, Casino "Saturnalia", The Octarine Parrot.

The rest of the tracks don't work outside of the game scenes. Hell, I'd say some of them don't work even in those scenes.

Knights of Honor - realtime medieval grand strategy game (like Crusader Kings 2) with RTS battles (like the Total War series). When on the world map the

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKghZxlbTLo are what I imagine would play in a medieval ruler's courtroom while they're plotting to take over a neighbouring kingdom or something (reminds me of the
), while in battle things get https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6u4EsjBlb8. Soundtrack's by Borislav Slavov, who's worked on a few games, like Crysis 2/3 and Two Worlds II.

Original War - modern day (and distant past) RTS with lite RPG elements: choises on how to complete missions, units level up and persist through the campaign, once dead they're gone forever, can't just make new dudes. The soundtrack for each faction (fictional Russia and USA) has its own feel, but overall it's like an imitation of the Starcraft

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9MqInsKyf0 themes, at least to me. Still, it's nice background music. The soundtrack was available as a bonus from GOG, but the game got removed from the catalog on June 22nd, 2014. I don't know if the Steam version has it. Part of it is available for download at https://original-war.net/files.php?c=17 (and the game's currently a dollar on Steam).

of faction tracks, video featuring other tracks.

A really cool guy named Chicajo put a little work into the old System Shock soundtrack, which is great as it is, but this really makes it enjoyable outside of the game. Personally, I don't like to listen to old midi stuff unless I'm playing the game. Unfortunately, I don't know if there's another source than Youtube, but the quality is quite good anyways.

Here's the playlist:

This one I've alreay seen at least once, but not with a Bandcamp link. Neotokyo GSDF, Neotokyo NSF. (It's name your own price)

If you like sharp sounds, the soundtrack of Hard Reset by Wojciech Blazejczyk (Jeah, try saying that name three times in a row. I can't even do it once) might be worth checking out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcFKAEzdO8c The quality on youtube is quite bad and I honestly don't know where to get the OST from, these days. I have it in my soundtrack folder but no idea why and where from. But if it's something you like, I'm sure you'll find a way to download better quality files quite fast. It was available somewhere sometime. Maybe in a Humble Bundle, though my profile page there doesn't show the game. Might have been from a time before I registered there, who knows.

The Talos Priciple has a surprisingly pleasant soundtrack. Especially the desert-themed tracks. Some of them even remind me of Diablo 2, which I'm sure you like as well. If not, go to your local church and ask god for forgiveness, right now. Anyways, it's available on Steam for basically nothing (http://store.steampowered.com/app/322020/) if you own the game, which is also pretty great if you like to explore and read stuff. It's a very thought-provoking game, which sounds cheesy and pretentious, but it actually is. The game's still 10 bucks, though (http://store.steampowered.com/app/257510/) and at that price only worth it if you're really willing to put in the time, in my opinion. I mean the puzzles on its own aren't bad at all, but not worth 10$, considering you might as well just buy both Portal games and still have enough change left for a dozen of good 2d puzzlers.

I'm pretty sure the original Painkiller has all of its music files sitting in the steam folder as mp3, waiting to be copy pasted somewhere more convenient, in case that's your kind of music. And if you don't own the game, it's currently 2 bucks on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/3200/). Here's a taste:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHdaa9RgUvU And if I lied and the OST is not actually among the rest of the files, I'm sorry. It's been a couple of years but I think I remember having it from there. There are more games which have the entire soundtrack just lying around in the Steam folder. Always worth checking. Another one that springs to mind is SimCity 4. (Unless any of the developers have updated the repo, obviously)

Here's where I'll just throw links of more recent/well-known stuff at you without further comment. Maybe something's gonna stick: Risk of Rain, The Swapper, Gravity Ghost, Deus Ex Human Revolution, TrackMania² Valley, TrackMania² Stadium, Dustforce, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (some have vocals but I don't care!)

That's it for now.

Happy birthday!

Not so much game soundtracks (and you might know them already, but i feel its not gonna hurt to mention), but soundtracks made by Jeff Williams for Red vs Blue and RWBY (i especially like RWBY ones) are great. Though most do have vocals, at least when it comes to RWBY (though instrumental ones are available in youtube, made by users). Still, there are more of these for RvB.

Also, for RWBY soundtracks, there is app for iOS that just came out (official one, free (app itself and 1 song)), where you can have vocals removed (with some other stuff too), so you can enjoy pure music.

Now, both RvB and RWBY soundtracks are available for purchase in roosterteeth.com (or only in itunes), so since you asked source, this is closest i know to point to.

example of soundtrack (RWBY, Red like roses. has some vocals, but only at start.)

iP7mVihaW_M

And only fully instrumental one i can think of at moment, that you might not have heard (but i aint too sure) is this:

wBfL_Fh-Q9U

TV show:

SG-1 soundtrack: MnFQlVT2UBo

Jack O'Neill: "You know Teal'c, if we dont find a way out of this soon, im gonna lose it. Lose it... it means go crazy. nuts. insane. bonzo. no longer in possession of ones faculties. 3 fries short of a happy meal. WACKO!!!!!!!!"

Oppression Ambience - Red Faction Guerrilla (starts at 48:20) The entire soundtrack is also available on steam but this one track stands out to me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jJ3tA4Xms4

The entire soundtrack of Nightmare Creatures is great, some creepy ambient tunes as well as rocking boss fight tunes. No idea where to find a good source for all the music except for ripping it from the disc. I do have a physical copy of the game so if you like the OST maybe I can try to rip it and keep it in good quality.

Here are two examples:

Ambient:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO-ecCmtXcc

Boss fight:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMr4LfzIyz4

There's also Nightmare Creatures 2 but I've never played it so I dunno how the soundtrack is on that one.

Next up is this track from a game called Kwon Ho, this game was an online Fighting game that was removed only a few months after it started so I doubt many people know about it. Most tracks are comparable I guess but this one stands out to me. Considering the game is no longer available I dunno where one would find a high quality soundtrack of it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PamPNQ6yTXU

I really love the title themes of all the Metroid Prime games

Metroid Prime 1:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsN2COe918Y

Metroid Prime 2:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCz3B1-pP8Q

Metroid Prime 3 (still gives me shivers):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8_ea-bgSBk

They also released a trilogy collection with it's own theme which is representative of all 3 games:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCtR6dTNRaY

Sega CD and Turbografx/PC Engine CD games seem to have cool soundtracks and I definitely don't know about all of them myself so I'd suggest going through the entire library on your own and see if you can find high quality versions of the music. Here are some examples though:

Sega CD:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHyQTjE9YRE

Turbografx/PC Engine CD:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyvdraPERr8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yoUfdIYVCw

This arrangement of Phantasy Star music is pretty cool imo:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gRGh0FMbJY

The music from Terminal Velocity and Fury³ is pretty epic if you ask me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H52f4cQ9aS0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYO6rVRd-ao

And now for some chiptunes (mainly 16 bit) gonna try not to go for obvious ones (Sonic, Castlevania, Megaman, Metroid, Final Fantasy etc. <-- These ARE all great too though) If you don't like them because of their chiptuny quality, perhaps OCremix has some cool variations?

Warsong (Sega Genesis):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVMe0Alp8hw

Contra Hard Corps (Sega Genesis):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4laPsTKiaLY

Actraiser (SNES)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_fL8jAm-kg

There's also an orchestrated version of that one here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuxeyAU15NE

Demon's Crest (SNES):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJr3B3ZRF2k

Blackthorne (SNES):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heWQ4OsgndI

That's about all I have so far, I'm sure I'll remember more later on so I'll probably keep posting here and looking for all the amazing soundtracks other people are posting :)

Happy birthday Ross!

Arcanum has an excellent soundtrack. It's also one of the most hand-tailored soundtracks out there, one of the few soundtracks where the musician actually worked as hard on the project as the programmers and game designers. There's an article here on the process of creation. http://www.benhouge.com/arcanum.html

Unlike a certain other user, I think it beats victoria 2 out the water, but that's obviously subjective.

I'd recommend Nier, but you've requested no lyrics, and it is pretty critically acclaimed, so instead I'll recommend you checking out Arc The Lad 2 and Arc the Lad: Twilight of The Spirits instead. I'm not 100% that they're as great as all that or if it's just nostalgia. At the very least it's diverse, so don't judge it on one track.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jG0LdSAOwU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOGkHf353f4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjOwdfJTnFw

Blade Symphony is another game I'm so fond of that I can't really tell if the music is good anymore

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAsheGR27bc

The soundtrack however is not free.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Cz-KgXj3aw Rome is the weakest in the universalis series, but in my opinion it has the strongest soundtrack. It's uploaded by the publisher, so you'd assume they're ok with you listening to it, but there's an itune link as well.

This is my first post btw, but I've lurked a lot. hi.

Happy birthday, Ross! Here's my gift:

First of all, I've seen some people here link to the Journey soundtrack, and it's one of the best! Beautiful! My link is going to the author's bandcamp page, because it's the best sound quality I found. It has all the songs, but they're in order (if I had the money, I would buy it for you).

Now, one that you may not know: Sha Hua Theme, from the Dreamcast exclusive Shenmue and its sequel, Shenmue II (since it's an old game, it will have to be youtube, sorry :|:( )
