Out of curiosity, I went looking for bus filters. There's actually devices that claim to do just that, although I don't know how credible they are.

All of that is junk, (for modern systems anyways) unless you have a high-intensity interference generator sitting next to your computer, operating on the frequencies used by the hardware. Essentially, it's a solution in search of a problem.

You may well be right, but we agree so rarely that you're almost endorsing them. I have little experience in this though. Closest I've come was I've had power filtering fix a problem with a laptop to television hdmi connection, and that for one made no sense to me.

That could be caused by an improperly shielded inverter in the TV, as is quite common on older (and some newer) el-cheapo TVs. The HDMI cable acted as an antenna to pick up the interference, and deliver it directly to the hardware.

 

It could also have been a bad ground in the cable or TV. (QC for TVs and HDMI cables when compared to PC hardware is like comparing a quick glance at the production line every now and then to a burn-in test on every piece of hardware)

 

Really, there are a ton of reasons why it could happen with a TV, but wouldn't happen with a normal modern PC, and would be perceptively corrected using a filtering device. (it doesn't actually fix the problem, just make it less perceptible, usually bringing functionality to normal or near-normal levels)
