Wabdit Posted August 30, 2016 A libertarian on Youtube kind of talked about how the political compass isn't always a perfect method of figuring out your views. For one, there's whether you're answering the questions based on how you feel about something versus answering based on what you think would be the least hypocritical upon further analysis. When she tries to answer her questions on a more logical basis, she demonstrates she's pretty far into the right-leaning libertarian section. When she votes on issues through a more personal feelings lens, being pro-life or whatnot, it puts her closer to the center, though not completely. So... take these things with a grain of salt. HGARR Posted March 19, 2018 Not sure how accurate this is, since I didn't have a good understanding of many of the questions, and there was no 'don't care/ know' option. Share this post Link to post
Selous Templar Posted March 19, 2018 Yeah it's only good for those invested in Politics, so I dunno how accurate that is, also considering that some "moderate" viewpoints are considered "authoritarian" now, I'd take it with a grain of salt mate. BTGBullseye Posted March 20, 2018 I didn't have a good understanding of many of the questions, and there was no 'don't care/ know' option. That's what Google is for, to get detailed descriptions and examples of the questions. [EDIT] Retook the test again... Economic Left/Right: -1.13 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.77 And yet I'm still forced to exclusively vote Republican because the DNC requires its members to be pro-abortion, which is a non-negotiable issue for me. Selous Templar Posted March 20, 2018 Man I wouldn't vote for either (well I mean, I can't I'm Australian), but yeah the GOP is slightly better than the DNC because of the Don. Otherwise I'd vote for Rand Paul. Non Nobis Domine, Non Nobis, Sed Nomine, tuo da Glorium Share this post Link to post

Templar Knight Posted March 22, 2018 Seeing as I have recently had some make assumptions about my political viewpoints, here are my results. I must say, they're basically where I expected they'd be, if not basically near the center of the board, as I did consider myself to be a type of Leftist. I will say, I do disdain how there isn't really a "Don't really care either way, option", but that's just me. Epsilon Posted March 29, 2018 Jeez, this dramatic a change is a surprise even to me compared with where I was in 2015. There was a time where I considered myself a Ron Paul-style libertarian more than anything. Do you feel blame? Are you mad? Uh, do you feel like wolf kabob Roth vantage? dashofweak Posted March 30, 2018 Not surprising at all, though this result makes me question whether or not "libertarian" is the opposite of "authoritarian" since i have fundamental disagreements with libertarian ideas. And let's keep discussion of other political ideas out of this thread, that's what the rest of this forum is for 100% is going to be a cut-rate clown Share this post Link to post

The "Libertarian" political party and their espoused ideals are not necessarily the same as actual libertarianism. Basically "libertarian" and "authoritarian" are just a measure of how much power the state has. The libertarian party only encompasses just one narrow form of libertarianism which is anti-regulation, anti-tax, and pro-NAP. I'm a libertarian socialist, and my idea of libertarianism is that the state shouldn't have any power over my autonomy to choose to live where I want and under what system I want. the name's riley Share this post Link to post

rokken Posted July 31, 2019 I'm surprised to see so many authoritarians here. Ross seems fairly laid-back for that, but then at the same time people like what they like so I'm glad they even get the chance to enjoy something in the first place. I don't think I even necessarily disagree with almost anyone here in what the major problems are, just the best solution for said problems. Share this post Link to post

Eshanas Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) These threads always have interested me. I'm here. My 'drift' has been from low right Red to deep Green, though maybe I bounced up a point in either direction because of minor things, but solidly on a 'Soc Dem' basis. Mostly because I don't trust a state, detached from the people on all levels and all sectors, to actually care for anything but itself over time. States should be of the people, by the people, and for the people, and the people compromise and adjust as needed ontop of a bedrock of supreme law, checks and balances, self-rule, democracy, transparency, and participation. Now if only that could be made as easily and as much as people go grocery shopping Edited August 3, 2019 by Eshanas (see edit history) Share this post Link to post
Prinny Posted August 3, 2019 (edited) I don't like this test. There's no neutral option for any question and sometimes we have ones like that Quote A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system. Which while I think I correct I don't necessarily believe that it overweights the disadvantages. So what should I pick and will test interpret that? Another thing, I couldn't find how or even if questions are weighted. And my results: (I have no idea how to embed this image) https://www.politicalcompass.org/yourpoliticalcompass?ec=-5.5&soc=-5.64 Now, I prefer 8values test which shows groups views in 4 categories instead of 2, has neutral option and is open source. rokken Posted August 4, 2019 (edited) I especially don't like question 15, Quote The means of production should belong to the workers who use them. because if I say "disagree" it implies no business owner may also work in their privately owned factory. Huh? Personally, I think if someone wants to work in the business they own, like say a farmer incorporating his farm, that's not a problem. But then, if I do say yes, it automatically grants me a couple points toward the left despite that not necessarily even being the case—what if I think that means should be privately owned for the owner to run how they see fit, including being one of the ones to use it? anyway, back to doing it, i guess i'll just say "neutral"... and yeah, that's about what i expected to get. maybe a little closer to centrism than i figured, i think i'm a little more than 72% individualist, but eh.
