General American Politics Thread

Recommended Posts

Okay, so, as can be seen from the title, this is an all purpose thread for discussing American politics. This is pretty informal, so basically you can talk about whatever political issue, government, etc as log as it's connected to American politics. I'll start.

I think America could greatly benefit from more and stronger third parties. As it stands right now, we have two major political parties who don't represent their constituents enough (the Republicans have been hijacked by the most extreme among their party, while the Democrats are acting schizophrenic in their flip-flopping between left-wing and centrist policies). Therefore, if America had better third parties, each political party would be held accountable to represent their "base". Instead of not voting, a voter can vote for someone he or she can vote for without feeling revolted at. Even if the candidate doesn't win, it tells the other parties that they need to work to earn the voters' trust and favor.

I'd vote for the Pirate Party, if they were doing anything... It's unfortunate that they just don't have any presence in my state.

Ok I know I have made my words known about the new tyrannical POS named Donald Trump a couple of times on here but this fucking idiot went to a Republican Convention and I shit you not mispronounced the bible verses when he was trying to say Second Corinthians he said 2 CORY THANS

and he took the rug from under Ted Cruz too, I know I would be a better candidate than Donald, since he is just going to allow the United States to be a new runway for any type of terrorism to come our way

But if I was to say what sort of party we need in the US we need one that is very PRO Taxes on the rich, so the taxes they pay go to things like an electrical national wide bullet train system that can take you from Seattle to Dallas in less than 4 hours, or something of the sort, if only we had visionaries like Jello Biafra running for Office

I will also say this, I think Donald Trump is a Closeted Log Cabin Republican who is bullying his way into everyones hearts because thats all hes been known to do, and that is bully his way through life, someone needs to cut him down to size!

Yeah, the Trump train is really beginning to get on my nerves, as well. The guy gives nothing but the easiest of answers that aren't even remotely workable without a ton of shady legislation being passed that won't bode well for anything.

But then, honestly, absolutely none of the candidates in the race in either party seem at all promising. The Republicans are all having a ridiculous race to the bottom, and the democrats basically have the choice of either Clinton, or Clinton (if the news has any sway, at least). Or Sanders, if people can move past the collective hopelessness that they assume his campaign has (as in, a lot of people like him but don't support him because they think all the other people who like him will also fail to support him). For my own opinion of Sanders, he seems like a pretty legit guy, all things considered, but his policies do seem kinda... idealistic? And not especially serviceable or even necessarily positive (I still maintain that free public college for all will just further devalue college education in general, speeding up the "college-educated barista" cliche more than anything.) I mean, he's at least a darn sight better than Trump in terms of policy, since Trump is all just reactionary bluster, while Sanders at least has tried to put some thought into work-ability, but still.

As for the Republicans, the only guy I can particularly stomach is Rand Paul, since he seems comparatively sane and also isn't anti-NSA spying, which is always good.

Too bad he's in absolute last place...

I mean, I guess Bush is alright (at least compared to Trump and Cruz), but again, he's kinda dead in the water.

As a radical moderate myself, I very much agree with Pest's sentiment that a Third party is pretty badly needed today. I have long gotten the feeling that there has been a large Independent base that's been developing lately (just look at these numbers!: http://www.people-press.org/interactives/party-id-trend/) that's just waiting to boil over once a good set of candidates comes about.

And given how abysmal the two party nominations look to be turning out, that may not be too hard to pull off this election cycle.

I HAVE to blow everything up! It's the only way to prove I'm not CRAZY!

you know what I also have to agree the USA needs a 3rd Party and not the green party, that doesnt really count, we need some sort of Independent Party that borrows from both sides but is completely neutral and only executes their republican values or needs when they want and vice versa if they were neutral and needed democratic values needed

and I am glad Descriptor you and I seem to be on the same page about the Trump Train, I know for one if I had a way to get close to this bastard Descriptor, I would ask him if he knows where he is if we were in the UK, id say if you dont well youre in a country that does this to you: *KICKS TRUMP IN THE BALLS THEN ROUNDHOUSE KICKS HIM TO THE FACE* YOUR in a COUNTRY THAT WANTS YOU BANNED! NOW DONALD TRUMP: YOURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Socialist Sanders is ready to run America in the ground with socialism, but is too genuinely crazy to be pushing it as a front for his campaign, meaning he thinks it could actually work, just like it did in the Nordic States (oops they're dead by 2020). Maybe if he gets far enough he'll write another book about how not having sex gives you cancer

Hilary should be in prison, and is only just now getting fire after the Obama administration finally started prosecuting. She's acting moderate, just like Obama, but is possibly the most authoritarian leftist on American Soil.

And who is that one guy on the left like wtf where'd he come from

Then we got Ted Cruz, who is not going to make it even though he'd be the best bet for conservatism. The GOP hates him, so he's out. Really sucks.

Kasich's dad was a mailman. Marco Rubio is a pushover, and Jeb Bush is the reason Trump is winning, which leads me to...

Trump, man. Now that the GOP knows Rubio and Bush are gone, they'd rather take Trump instead of Cruz because Trump is vague on his ideas, and Cruz is thorough and concise, and the establishment would rather take the unknown than the known they disagree with. Trump's loudest ideas are the most conservative (and anti PC, raking in some of the fed up liberals). He's down for killing unborn babies, stealing land through the government, and gay marriage (so nobody alienates me for that, I think marriage should completely cultural. Wedlock benefits cause strife when frugal people would rather hate their spouse and poorly raise a kid than spend a little money to the Big Man. That being said, any Christian church has the right to deny gays, in fact anyone can deny service to anyone, it'll just hurt them and give their competition an upper hand). I think it's a safe bet he's going to take some money from the GOP and veto and push what they want (I'm not saying he's going to go full puppet, but he's probably going to be swayed by them. Anyone who says he's running for president to make his mark on history is misinformed). Conservatives need someone who is willing to veto anything with a libtard buzzword, and while it's true Obama pulled a similar stunt, he was willing to shut down congress to get his way, the six year old tantrum attitude won't work without talking directly to congress, no matter its standing in 2016, not pandering the populous through the media. That being said, Trump is a celebrity because Obama has shown merging entertainment and politics is an effective tactic. I predict that, either CNN will slowly shift its political bias (or it will be seen that way, they could just rely on Trump's left side), or Trump will come out of the closet with his liberalism.

TL;DR: The left is (hopefully) down for the count, sadly the GOP is going to elect a closet liberal for them.

You know who would be good:

Ron Paul

mainly because if you know about the NDAA (an act that was signed in secret via an emergency session of Congress in december 2011) and it basically makes anyone who owns a weapon classified as a terrorist and a lot of other things and well you can be sent to jail by obama as long as the government thinks your ok but even then your already fucked up so they lock you up for longer..

Ron Paul would have abolished that, would have abolished the FEMA internment camps since those camps are fucking creepy, especially because they have all those fucking antennas around, my god.....

I personally know that the NDAA act can place the entire country under Martial Law with no change for who knows how long, basically throws the DEFCON status out the fucking window and into a fucking furnace, but mostly it fucks everyone up since if you have enough food for you and your family to survive more than a week after something bad has happened, you're declared a terrorist, if you have live ammo and guns: Terrorist, basically anything that allows you to entrust your own survival onto you and your loved ones makes you a terrorist, personally I think that if Ron Paul was in Power, he would get rid of this act and he would also allow people to read a bible in a Veterans Hospital, and not have it be innappropriate.

There is a lot of things wrong with the political campaigners right now, I mean if Jello Biafra was running, he would be PRO TAX, I mean If I was able to have a say in who to vote for and was running against Trump I would just use the same Bullshit excuse that everyone else uses for problems: 9/11 and would easily beat trump by just using the 9/11 defense and would say so many malicious things about Trump like saying hes a communist who wants everyone to get raped by ISIS in the USA.....because I personally think if anyone allows him to be president, The USA will be even more fucked up than they are now, Detroit and the entire state of Michigan aswell as Texas will fuck the USA and rape them to the point of no return to the point that the USA would be the first country that is also a 3rd world country that is apart of the UN Security Council, now that with Trump getting himself banned by so many more countries, he will just make the United States be the most ostracized country in the entire world.

Maybe I am just being really pessimistic but I dont see Trump doing good for the USA, but TED Cruz or Bernie Sanders would be better than him, hell they would be better than the last Bush in the white house, I am thankful history was made with President Obama, but we need more than that honestly....we need someone who isnt moronic and is so fucking shameful that everyone would want Mikhail Gorbachev as the US President instead.....

Honestly, I keep getting the feeling that Trump is acting like he is just to get the election, and isn't really going to do much of anything if elected.

Don't insult me. I have trained professionals to do that.

Maybe Trump is just doing this to create a common enemy for both parties. Maybe it's a long con to help get rid of partisanship and gridlock and stuff. That's what he means by making America great again!

Or he's just a pompous blowhard. That works, too.

I am, for the most part. I'll be tuning in around 3:00 Pacific Time, two hours before the counting starts. The polls say pretty strongly Trump on the Republican side, and it's too close to call on the Democratic side.

The 2016 elections are a catastrophe. This isn't a Presidential election, this is a "who's your favorite supervillain" poll.

Alright, so a basic breakdown of tonight.

Trump won in an absolute landslide, but less of one than I thought. I didn't think he'd lose *any* states, but he lost three. Two to Cruz and one to Marco Roboto. Still, this was an absolutely crushing display, and Cruz is right on one thing: Carson, Kasich and Rubio should drop out and stop embarrassing themselves.

On the democratic side, it's a wash. Hillary won most of the southern states, and more states than Sanders. Who the fuck CARES? Those states were all a foregone conclusion, we called them back in November, we knew no amount of anything was going to change the minds of those voters. Furthermore, those states are a bad sign for electability on the democratic side, as they all lean conservative and will vote republican in the general. It's a lot like winning Iowa on the republican side.

So, what were the three most important states tonight? The states that were up for grabs, and awarded the most democratic delegates? Colorado (BTG, say hi), Minnesota and Massachusetts. Bernie won Colorado and Minnesota in an absolute landslide, and Hillary was only two points ahead in Massachusetts. So then, is this a Hillary win or a Bernie win?

Well, neither, really. Overall delegates aren't that differently split, it's slightly towards Hillary overall, but looking at the polling in the states coming up... It's not enough. This wasn't a decisive victory for her by a long shot, and she needed one. Bernie is ahead in Michigan, he's ahead in Washington, he's ahead in Ohio and Florida, every state in the next two weeks he's ahead in, if there's any exceptions please let me know because I can't find *one* poll where she's ahead in the next two states. He also has a comfortable lead in national polling now, and as he was down 60 points last year that's a tremendous gain. That isn't to say she's out, she's definitely not, she still has the anti-democratic super delegates to override the actual votes and put her in place anyway, but it's not only in question if that'll happen, but if his lead will even be small enough to BE overridden.

Keep tuned for the next two weeks. The republican race may be over, but the democrats are neck and neck. This is getting interesting.
