Free Tribes: Ascend Beta key to anyone who wants it. I'll think of a way to decide between you guys soon enough depending on how many are interested.

I love you, yet can't stand to know you exist.

(right here at the bottom of the first post if you want to check you have that version, assuming it's the latest version).

My problem was that the link didn't send me to that page, I just got sent to the index.

Anyway, I'm only about 1 hour or so into it and so far I can only find a single fault... When you get to choose whether you're going into the military, navy etc. and you get to choose your postings I wish you'd actually be able to go and participate in the postings as it seemed there were actually a few scenarios that sounded pretty awesome. Do you know whether there's a mod that adds some of those to the game?

Sorry for changing topics but I have a question. I kinda want to get into Star Trek, but the franchise has fricken millions of Episodes and a couple movies. Any advice on where to begin?

It depends on your tastes I guess, it's a vast issue. I'm not really a fan of the original series, but I quite like one of the movies that followed it; I particularly enjoyed Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The Voyage Home was a little strange but not too bad either.

In terms of series, I probably like the Next Generation the most, although there are a fair few episodes in it that I don't like. There are also a lot of episodes in it I do like. I think there are at least a few episodes of it I haven't seen though. As for the films that follow, they were okay, although First Contact is the one I prefer the most.

Star Trek Voyager is quite good as well, being from the same sort of 'era' as TNG. I've not seen all of the episodes for this either, in fact proportionally I've seen a lot less of Voyager than I have of TNG. The premise is also quite different which is nice.

I've not seen Deep Space 9, what little information I know about it has put me off watching it. It sounded like it contained most of the elements that I disliked in the episodes of TNG I disliked. That said, it does apparently have an interesting story ark which involves some sizeable battles or some such.

Finally with Enterprise, I'm aware this series polarised a lot of fans. In general I enjoyed it, but like with TNG and Voyager, there were episodes I both liked and disliked.

The only reason I mention the 'there were episodes I liked and disliked' thing frequently here, is that having seen Stargate SG1, Atlantis and the Battlestar: Galactica remake, I liked virtually all of the episodes in those series', with only a select few episodes I didn't like.

Finally, with the new movie 'Star Trek', it's a great movie which I enjoyed. It's a reboot, with the characters of the original series but a new cast. I'm quite interested in seeing where they go with this.

I realise I haven't really recommended a starting point here, I'm hoping someone more in to Star Trek than I am can do that, but hopefully I've helped somewhat in giving you an idea of things. :)

Odd, the link didn't do that for me, it worked just fine when I tried it.

As for the mod question, I've no idea I'm afraid, I never modded the game beyond getting it to run on Windows Vista and in widescreen. I can only suggest searching the mods and forums on that website for possible solutions.

Feel free to PM me about almost anything and I'll do my best to answer. :)

Fluttershy gets it by virtue of his/her/its avatar. Sorry Kirkreng. Download the Hi-Command client and I'll PM you the beta code.

O.o who did that?

Probably just a fan of Freeman's Mind (since it was a link to the episode page).

I saw that video earlier today on Kotaku and thought it was pretty awesome but also nuts. I believe similar manoeuvers have been done on previous Battlefield games such as Battlefield 2.

In that case, Fluttershy better not use the code I gave him. There are plenty of other people who want in the beta that I know, and I want to make sure I don't give them a "bogus" code.

Yeah... I was about to say Axel. I never got that PM. Trust me AJ, I did not yet get a beta key. I would never be that much of an asshat.

If I send a PM it says I've sent it but it doesn't appear in my sent messages, found out when I tried to send one to Kirk. Maybe I've had one too many warnings?

Alright thanks, I think I'll start with one of the movies first to get me an impression.

The only Star Trek I've ever watched is when they're trying to save Humpback Whales. It had something to do with their songs being very important to the people of earth. It seemed a little cheesy, so I turned it down. Dr. Who is just as random, but it's more actiony than the Star Trek I saw and Matt Smith is friggin' amazing.

I strongly recommend watching the series before any movies, that way you will get familiar with the characters and stuff. If you dont mind a little cheesiness (however you spell it) then I really recommend starting with the original series. As for movies, skip Star Trek: the motion picture, and go straight to Star Trek II: the wrath of Khan, you dont have to see the first one in order to watch the second. I also strongly recommend The next genaration, it has the best movies. You have to see First contact, it might be one of the best movies overall. Nemesis is also a really good one. As for the new one, dont watch it before the original series, you will notice a pretty big change with the quality. (not complaining about the old series, but its hard to go from 2009 CGI, to 60s costumes )
