Yeah, but when I tried calling it, all I got was a rooster or something squawking in my ear for 10 minutes before an irate farmer came by and put it out of its misery. Later that month, I received a bill from a sex line... WTF did I call?

I can't believe Steam got the PSN treatment.

Well at least they know how to handle it.

Step 1: Tell everyone that something bad happened (mass emails). That way people that may have been victimized are in the know and will take action themselves as much as they can (password changes, etc.).

Of course that's assuming the hackers haven't already run off with credit card info, in which case there's not too much the end user can do about it aside from monitoring their statements. If I recall, the advice Steam gave in that email (which I only got last night after the server crashed) is pretty much the same advice Sony gave its PSN customers. Luckily, I wasn't affected in either case, since I don't store that kind of info and have my preferences set on all online stores to force me to re-enter my info with each transaction. Usually I don't use a CC if I can get away with it.

I thought you got registered on the forum for having a steam account? Or is that a different system entirely?

I don't even have access to Steam right now, so if I get on later this year and find out that someone stole all of my free games, I'm going to unscrew their head and shit down their neck!!!

oh, promise you won't get mad...let's just say your password should not be fluttershyizdaawesomesauce......that was really easy to guess.

Nope, I've used the same password since 8th grade, that being a twelve letter, no-space phrase commending the quality of fermented dairy products. (First correct guess gets rep and a cookie)

I honestly DO NOT CARE if I get hacked. I don't save credit card information, so I doubt it's possible for me to get effectively hacked.

eh, good thing i'm a console gamer. still, hackers are ridiculous.

How would being a console gamer have anything to do with the security of your credentials?

oh, i realized how that must've sounded. any xbox live, Microsoft points, etc i purchase through cards. i don't keep credit cards on the xbox, or any real personal information. i'm not saying i'm better than anyone if that's what i implied.

I don't want to get Xbox 360. The games don't interest me enough, and for the multiplayer, I don't want to have to pay for online usage in addition to my internet bill.

Yeah that XBL price is kind of stupid. Honestly, the only reason I'd want an Xbox is to play the newer Halo games. But until my evil plan to grow money on a tree shows progress, that isn't going to happen.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
