I honestly cannot choose between the two. Half-Life 2 has better graphics and even more development on the storyline, but Half-Life holds the really good memories for me...

Admittedly, there is a bias there because I played 2 first, though...

Then again, whenever I think about it, I usually feel the want to play 2 more than 1, anyway.

Just on any real occasion.

I think I just like the environments in 2 more...

I think we got a bit off course. I played HL1 back in the early 2000's actually and loved every second of it.

Bha! Impossible to chose

 

In HL controlling the most bad-ass hero of gaming for the first time was awsome

square glasses, a beard and a small ponytail... nobody can beat that... (though you never see his face...)

 

In HL2 the G-man must have cut his ponytail while Gordon was in stasis...

 

so HL1 wins

HL1 because HL2 feels more linear. In HL1 there were actually whole paths that went no where and you'd get goodies. A good example of this is getting grenades in the area of episode 6.

Have to go with the original... Just simply because I can't do it in under 2 hours, and I can do HL2 in about 45min. (not including any cutscenes)

This was a tough decision but ultimately I like HL2 for its more cinematic nature and more rich characters.
