"DICE threatens permanent bans for users of color-editing"

XD I never played this game but the action the company took AGAINST the mod and its own customers is just ...

According to PCGamer:

"Tinkering Battlefield 3 soldiers released a mod today allowing tweaks to the displayed color levels, with the most dramatic result involving the suffusion of the pervasive blue-tinged gradient into supposedly more natural colors. The sample photo album and comparison video definitely show a stark difference between stock and modified visuals, but when asked for his input on the mod, Battlefield 3 gameplay designer Gustav Halling said it was “too colorful” and warned of possible permanent bans for users.

“[it's] too colorful,” Halling tweeted. “Also, I wouldn’t use those hacks if you don’t want a permanent ban on your account. FYI warning.”"

Great marketing, guys... Blackmailing your own customers....

I especially like this one comment: "OCEAN TOO PRETTY. MUST BAN."

I read about this earlier, it seems a bit over the top really, but it's possible whatever system they use to detect cheats/hacks cannot determine if the method used to modify the game's colours is being used for something to provide an unfair advantage either.

Feel free to PM me about almost anything and I'll do my best to answer. :)

Whatever this mod does or not, their reaction IS over the top and just makes them bad karma. This is not how you communicate with your customers. Can you imagine VALVe banning people for playing Black Mesa because of whatever reason hey could come up with it?

"BLACK MESA FACILITY PROJECT TOO LOGICAL.BAN"

Even though I do like the look the mod gives more, I wouldn't call them natural colors. Seems very over saturated. Still like it more than the grey/blue monotone-ness that is BF3.

And playing devil's advocate for a second here. It is really hard to determine whether you use this mod to make your colors "more natural" or use it as a cheat to create contrast, making enemies easier to see. While I agree, that the way it was brought seemed a little defensive. I see why this is banable.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How do you plan on seeing colors in Battlefield 3 behind the over done super shitty bloom.
