No, it wasn't, not even at the time.

 

Its because A) it was the first film with computer animation, B) it had a new and interesting look, and C) it was a Disney film.

It just holds a certain appeal to me. Yeah I can make fun of it and point out it's flaws (which I do) but that never detracts from me enjoying it for what it is.

TRON 1 isn't a good movie, but it was groundbreaking for using computer animation. Without TRON, we wouldn't have any Pixar movies, so it was really influential on the movie industry as a whole. As a movie though, yeah, it's pretty mediocre. But the effects were mindblowing for the time and I love the visual style of it.
