Call of Duty

Recommended Posts

Now for me to join on the hate train. Call of Duty as a series has only 2 plausible roads it can go down in the next few years.

1.They continue doing what they're doing. Making short as crap campaigns that are just some linear levels full of explosions and terrorism, because they know the multiplayer is all people give a shit about. Each yearly installment has either negligible or bad changes done to the gameplay from the last game, but will overall play exactly the same with each gun in a certain gun class being almost the same fucking thing. People eventually realize just how stagnant the series and its gameplay has been since around '07 or '08. That year's installment and possibly the series as a whole crashes, burns, and has its grave pissed on by much better FPSes that come out around the same time. Possibly even getting a good Mighty Boot from the new Duke Nukem game if the timing really ends up that good.

Not gonna happen. Even if they fall(which they will, eventually) another less than good game will take its place. Call of Duty caters to casual gamers which are a lot more than the hardcore gamers. And most casual gamers have never played a better game, CoD is the best they know. Therefor it will keep selling.

2. They realize number one is going to happen if they don't get shit together and actually change something. Series possibly takes a hiatus so they can go back to the drawing board to see how they can improve everything. Mod tools, map editors, and other such side things could possibly result. The eventual CoD game resulting from this will most likely be very innovative or at least have much more depth within the gameplay compared to most previous CoD games. Most likely not Deus Ex depth, but too much innovation in one go might make most of the fanbase's heads explode from too much genuine awesome at once. The series still sells well, but now is more deserving of the love.

My reaction: Better games and people keep their jobs. The preferable choice.

Unlikely, Activision is not one to risk losing a franchise so huge by making dramatic changes to the gameplay. And in the end, Activision controls what comes in the game.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Modern Warfare 3 is the first CoD game I've bought and really gotten into, and all i can say is that I pretty much think it's the best FPS available for the PC right now, especially in terms of multiplayer. It really suits my playstyle.

Forgetting a certain 1998 game by Valve?

Or perhaps a certain 1995 game by Bethesda?

Well, I like Modern Warfare 3 more than Half-Life. And I have no idea what Bethesda released in 1995, nor do I particurarily care.

Just saw this new trailer for the new Ghost Recon game. It reminds me of Modern Warfare if it was a third person shooter, and not half-assed.

I don't think MW3 was half-assed at all. I've definitely seen worse FPS's.

But yeah, seems interesting.

And people, please cut down on the bashing of MW3. Keep in mind some people actually like it. Like me.

You said yourself MW3 is your first call of duty game. That says to me you don't have first hand experience how shockingly similar it is to the first 2 modern warfare games. Not saying you can't have fun playing it, it's just a very lazily made game.

Being someone who's played all the games, I have to say that MW3 was executed a hell of a lot better than MW2 and Black ops. though it still is about as similar as all the other games (very first call of duty being the exception due to the health meter. that's right, health meter.) in terms of gameplay, I still liked the actual campaign a lot more.

I guess I'm spoiled by game series that attempt to innovate between each installment. Doing the same exact same thing again, but doing it a little better, just doesn't cut it for me.

But then you are basically criticizing the franchise, not MW3 as a standalone product.

For me, MW3 is a great standalone product, if you look at it apart from the other games. I agree that it doesn't really do any innovations but then again... doing too much new stuff at once can, and has ruined a franchise.

I don't think they're in danger of doing too much in terms of innovation, and even when innovation ruins a game, I'll applaud a developer for taking risks. I criticize Activision's motives because they seem be intent on changing as little as possible without resulting in actual consumer outrage.

It has worked out for them in the past. Look at Cod4 compared to Cod2(Cod3 was console exclusive and just not that popular, also it was developed by Treyarch so I'm gonna ignore it for now), there is a big jump there(multiplayer wise). Classes, a lot more weapons, perks, attachments, air support and completely new setting. And Cod4 quickly became a record selling game. However now their games break records without even trying. A shame really.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they'll do in the future. With other developers there might be chance for a new spinoff product, especially with Activision wanting yearly releases. I personally liked Black Ops a lot, so I'd love to see more of that, especially with the multiplayer from MW3.

Finally won a FFA match XD

kept getting lucky kills up to the predator strike, then got 3 kills with that, immediately bringing in a heli which proceeded to get me another 14 kills. XD

The rest was only a matter of time since I was 800 points ahead of second place 2 minutes in.

Okay, I'm proud of myself. XD I just pulled a 20 kill 1 death in Team deathmatch. The 1 death was me being stupid at the start and standing too close to a burning car. After I respawned though, I got in 2 heli's from my kill streak. XD

Those guys were baaaaaad.
