Star Trek IV Soundtrack...

Grew up in a family of trekkies, and got to stay up late when I was young solely to be able to watch TNG... (bedtime for all the other kids was 8:00, I got to go till 11:00 because TNG was on at 10:00 )

Te Deum, orchestrated by Arvo Part, conducted by Tõnu Kaljuste and performed by the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

The lyrics are latin:

Te Deum laudamus: te Dominum confitemur.

Te, aeternum Patrem, omnis terra veneratur.

Tibi omnes Angeli, tibi caeli et universae Potestates,

Tibi Cherubim et Seraphim incessabili voce proclamant:

Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth.

Pleni sunt caeli et terra maiestatis gloriae tuae.

Te gloriosus Apostolorum chorus;

Te Prophetarum laudabilis numerus;

Te Martyrum candidatus laudat exercitus.

Te per orbem terrarum sancta confitetur Ecclesia:

Patrem immensae maiestatis,

Venerandum tuum verum et unicum Filium,

Sanctum quoque Paraclitum Spiritum.

Tu rex gloriae, Christe,

Tu Patris sempiternus es Filius.

Tu ad liberandum suscepturus hominem non horruisti virginis uterum.

Tu devicto mortis aculeo aperuisti credentibus regna caelorum.

Tu ad dexteram Dei sedes, in gloria Patris.

Iudex crederis esse venturus.

Te ergo quaesumus, tuis famulis subveni, quos pretioso sanguine redemisti!

Aeterna fac cum Sanctis tuis in gloria numerari!

Salvum fac populum tuum, Domine, et benedic hereditati tuae!

Et rege eos, et extolle illos usque in aeternum!

Per singulos dies benedicimus te

Et laudamus nomen tuum in saeculum et in saeculum saeculi.

Dignare, Domine, die isto sine peccato nos custodire!

Miserere nostri, Domine, miserere nostri!

Fiat misericordia tua, Domine, super nos, quemadmodum speravimus in te!

In te, Domine, speravi: non confundar in aeternum. Amen. Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus.

I can't understand all of the lyrics, but I do know that the title Te Deum means "You, God" and Sanctus means Holy. Many of the nouns are largely unmodified from the Hebrew and Greek meanings from which they originate, such as Prophetarum, Martyrum, Christe and Cherubim.

Arvo Part is a Composer who comes from (and lives in) Estonia. Much of his repertoire, written for Catholic and Protestant churches for Choir and Orchestra, was written while the Iron Curtain segregated him from the purpose for which he wrote the music, much of it in secret. Te Deum is one such piece, written in 1983.

Part is attributed with the foundation of musical Minimalist theory and one of few living Holy music composers.

This is a nice metric server. No imperial dimensions, please.

Coheed and Cambria - The suffering.

Interesting sidenote: The album this song featured in was actually a part of a story, written in all the other songs in the album. (Welcome Home, The suffering, etc.)

For the Rush/Hard Rock/Metal fans at the top, if you can take 2112 or any other long song, try Octavarium by Dream Theater. I'm listening to it for the 50th time and it still amazes me.
