"You can count me and my crew in on this journey, as well," said Scorch, adjusting his hat before making his way out of the tavern. "Twas a pleasure meeting you, professor." Scorch's joints whirred as he turned his back to the group and left the tavern, nearly bumping into a cloaked figure. "My my, someone's in a hurry..." A smile formed in the corners of his mouth. This journey might be more interesting than I anticipated... Scorch opened his hand, a small hologram appearing from his fingertips of the information Argyle's head captain had given them. The map and hazards were vague... no, purposely vague. Clearly he wants to make sure no one beats him to the treasure, Scorch mused to himself. He tapped a few pressure sensitive zones on his forearm, which sent the data to the [i[Glain-Neidr[/i]. He headed back for his ship, when his communicator started buzzing. He looked around a bit to make sure no one was watching him before answering it.

"Captain Scorch, this is the Glain-Neidr," said an icy-toned woman, no doubtedly Sydney. "What is this we're looking at? Don't tell me this is all you got out of this."

"Calm yourself, Sydney," Scorch sighed. "We're not exactly on familiar ground here, so I chose to get what I could get my hands on. I trust Claud hasn't looked at the data yet?"

"No, he's busy fabricating munitions," Sydney replied. "Why? Is there something I'm missing?"

"Possibly, I'm not sure yet," Scorch looked around. "I want you, Destiny, and Claud to meet me on the bridge when I return to the ship. I trust we're ready to leave?"

"Of course!" chimed Destiny. "Anything for you, Captain~"

"Good. We'll be following that Oskra F-2840 I mentioned last night," said Scorch.

"What!? You have got to be kidding me!" cried Destiny. "We have to escort that piece of slag? This is going to be soooooo boring..."

Scorch growled in his throat, "Destiny. Shut up. If you're so bored, how about you work that magic of yours and get the records of the ships that are scheduled to leave port immediately."

"Oh, fine," Destiny was clearly disappointed with her assignment. "I'll get on it. I should have something by the time you get back."

"You had better," Scorch said before closing the communication line. Scorch made it back to the port where they docked the Glain-Neidr. The lights inside the port enhanced the radiance of the ship's hull, making it glow with an eerie crimson light. Scorch approached the entrance and placed his left hand on the scanner. A key from his palm penetrated the panel, opening the door. Scorch was greeted by his crew, most of whom were disguised as Corsian engineers, who stood at attention as Scorch passed them. He entered the bridge to find his crew all at the ready. Destiny leapted from her post when she saw Scorch step onto the bridge, but Sydney stopped her from undoubtedly hugging him.

"Would you grow up already?" Sydney grunted as she struggled to restrain Destiny, her skeleton glowing for the entire bridge to see.

"Destiny!" Scorch growled. "Stop it." Destiny stopped struggling and gave Scorch the look of a kicked puppy. Scorch smiled and looked at Claud. "It's good to see you up and about, my friend. Have you looked at the data I--"

"I'm scanning it now," said Claud, "I'm assuming you're hoping I can find a way to acquire more information. This is a large file, and getting the data I'll need will take a while."

"So it's there?"

"Maybe, I'm not entirely sure yet," Claud replied in an even-toned voice. "Only thing I'm sure of is we're not dealing with idiotic nobles this time around."

All the more reason this expedition has me interested. "And Destiny? Did you find out anything about the ships?"

Destiny grinned and freed herself from Sydney's restraining grasp. "Of course I did! No one can resist my charms..."

"It helps that I gave you those drugs to slip the guard you 'charmed'," Syndey rolled her eyes. "I've already looked through the data, Scorch."

"And?"

"And nothing," Syndey said. "Most of the records we got were clean. The ships aren't anything too special, and the captains are fairly average, although two of them are apparently ghosts in the system."

"Interesting... I'll take a closer look at the data myself once we've taken off," said Scorch. "Everyone, to your posts! Prepare the Glain-Neidr for take-off."

"Hey, Is this working? I just thought I'd introduce myself since we'll become the 'best of friends' over this journey. My names Srakenyl. Just call me Srake though. I'm a... Doppleganger. I'm not much of a fighter as I'm a pilot. My gunner will be doing most of the fighting. Hopefully we won't have to do much of that though. So what about you guys?"

"I'm not one that talks what's past." The cloaked figure said through the com-link. "It makes people gain feelings that they don't need, hell, my crew don't even know what I look like, or even my name, better that way, though I won't stop you from telling me pointless information like names."

OOC: Yes I do plan on revealing more about my character, like the name, but now's not the time for character development for the cloaked figure, but if anyone wants to come up with a name (for now) and I'll think about using that until it's time to reveal the real name.

OOG: Be patient.

If you're curious as to why I posted so infrequently since Tuesday, it's because I could only post after I got home from work. Also, startup in Role-Plays is almost always slow. This is compounded by the fact that most players here [i assume from the general indication from the Free-For-All RP thread] have not done an RP before.

If that was in-character, Fluttershy, it was poorly indicated.

It was in-character. I apologize if I offended anybody. My character is short tempered. Any side thoughts I have will be put in spoiler tags. All character thoughts will be italicized. Quoting another person will be in bright green text. Normal writing is what my character is speaking, and boldface writing is actions, from here on out.

"Captain Yilne Wvernaa. it's good to meet you Srake, i'm sorry, but i cannot talk."

Yilne was walking casually. he was thinking of what the professor had said. even now the money was already being spent, in his mind that is. he thought how many upgrades his ship needed, maybe upgrading MIPAI. who knows? he switched off his English filter when he finished his dialogue with Srake. he was now speaking his native language, talking to one of his crew members over a sophisticated cochlear implant. "yea, it was only an escort proposition...what are you crazy? of course i accepted...i'll explain on the way, prepare the crew...i'll be there soon."

his ship, The Xielumbus was in full view now. he loved the power he felt behind it's controls. he didn't think of it now. Yilne approached the entrance and droned a tune in a frequency that no one but a Jiespher could imitate. the Door slid open. quickening his pace a bit he entered his ship taking a path he's walked hundreds of times. once he was in his captain's chair MIPAI chirped to life, and instantly recognized Yilne. Yilne, now back in his element, ordered his ship to life. The Xielumbus is prepared to launch.

somebody mentioned to me that i may not be using the correct format for this, if what i'm doing now needs to change let me know.

Your format seems fine to me, although capitalization would be desired.

Also, I forgot Srake on the Character list on pg. 1. Sorry Srake, fixed now.

As it approached, Argyle got a rare view in appreciation of what the Valiant looked like. Similar to most large ships anyone ever heard about on the news or in movies, you only ever got a decent view of them when they were docking with something, since most of the time they were too far away or too poorly lit from the outside to be seen clearly in full detail. The mostly squarish Valiant however made itself quite well pronounced with a rambunctious scarlet paint scheme from stem to stern, interrupted only by a rather snazzy series of four white stripes that ran from the front sensors suite to the front tip of the engine cowlings.

The shuttle docked with an unceremonious *clatch* to the main reception port on the side of the Valiant. The Professor stepped out, almost tripping on the poorly indicated separator seam between the interior door of the shuttle and the port lock of the frigate. Immediately he walked to the bridge, expecting the Captain to be there.

Among the various consoles sat the bridge crew with the officers there doing various sorts of ship-based whatnot that either kept them busy or kept the ship at work. Of all the men in their gray uniforms, one sat wearing a white uniform, playing with a Rubik's cube, having solved two sides. A sideways glance registered he noticed Argyle had returned from the spaceport.

"Any good finds Professor?" he said in a heartily boisterous and friendly old english accent. Argyle procured his datapad, retrieving "sent proper: contracts" to see who it actually was that he had hired in those almost obtusely small moments in the Tavern.

"Let's see... four humans, and three other beings, that I could tell. According to their Register IDs, our employ will be four corvettes, three scoutcraft, four Interceptors and two frigates."

"Small favors!" blustered the Helmsman in a vivdly jovial voice, before becoming preoccupied with his Rubik's cube again.

"Darril, where's Richard?"

"Cap' hasn' woken up yet."

"It's nearly 11! Confound it, what do I pay him for?"

"Relax, Professor. We know what we're doing, we'v been in this tub as long as you'v been wearin' glasses."

Tharebas snapped out of his inactivity and proceeded with slow thumping steps towards the door. He never looked around or spoke. His inhumane aura produced an unnerving silence across the bar. He exited, while shoving a stranger away from the door. Finally, he reached his "ship". In an instant, the metallic tendrils that formed it subsided and pulled him in the unknown interior.

Garret ordered a drink and started thinking about the mission to come:

When someone asks for escorts on an exploration mission it ussually means trouble, considering the amount of ships he's hired. Just hope we can cooperate well enough.

Then a message come out of his earpiece:

"Hey, Is this working? I just thought I'd introduce myself since we'll become the 'best of friends' over this journey. My names Srakenyl. Just call me Srake though. I'm a... Doppleganger. As the Glain-Neidr prepared to take off, Claud received a message from another ship on the expedition.

"Should I put in on screen, Captain?" Claud asked.

"No, keep working on that code," said Scorch. "Launch as planned; I'll handle the other ship." Scorch turned in his chair to his personal console and opened the message, a video file of a gray man.

"Hey, Is this working? I just thought I'd introduce myself since we'll become the 'best of friends' over this journey. My names Srakenyl. Just call me Srake though. I'm a... Doppleganger. "This is Scorch, captain of the Glain-Neidr. I'd love to chat," he lied, "but we're currently preparing for take-off. Maybe we can all talk another time." Scorch closed the com-link. The success of his role in this expedition relied on his fellow captains not knowing about him or his ship's history. He could only hope that his cover could buy him enough time to get to the golden planet.

"Captain, we're ready to depart," said Destiny.

"Good. Take us to the Valiant."

"Hopefully that bucket of bolts will be warmed up and ready to go by the time we get there," Destiny said under her breath.

The ship's rear flashed red, and it began to hover. Tharebas initiated the activation sequence as the tendrils supporting the ships innards reformed, and in a blink of an eye, attached themselves violently to his armor. The armor cracked and reformed untill it became one with the tendrils and finally, with the ship itself. Part of the ships front subsided to reveal two cannons, and a couple of missles seemingly sprouted from each side. In a second flash, The Abandoned One dashed straight at the dark sky above. The Valiant awaited.

Srake switched off the comm channels with a grimace. "Well that was pleasant..." Jade looked from behind her console, "What was?" she asked. Srake sighed, "Just our new comrades. They aren't exactly the warmest people I've met. But that doesn't matter right now, it's time to take off. The Professor's shuttle has taken off for the Valiant. I suggest we fall into formation." Srake activated the Tenrar. The propulsion systems whirled to life and Tenrar hovered of the ground. It turned towards the Valiant and shot off towards it.

Captain Tagon and his escorts reached the Shadow Spear and entered a code of some sort on his wrist-mounted communicator. The air-lock door unsealed and opened allowing the captain and his escorts to enter. A panel inside the air-lock allowed him to reseal the outer door and open the inner one. An officer was waiting for him. Tagon spoke first, "Lieutenant, anything to report?"

"No Sir, although we did keep an eye out for anything odd; we have quite the collection of ships here, Sir."

"I know, some of them will almost certainly try to stab us in the back at some point..."

"Indeed. Also Sir, we noticed one female investigating multiple ships docked here. She had a few looks at our ship, but as per your orders the air-lock remained sealed until you returned."

"Good job, good job. Anyway, we'd best be off, the Professor will be waiting for us."

*The captain motioned his escorts to move along and proceeded along a route to the bridge with the Lieutenant.*

The Lieutenant chose this moment to clarify a few things; "So we're going ahead with the job then, Sir?"

"Yeah, I have a hunch it could be the big break we've been looking for."

"The big one? You're sure?"

"I am, the Professor's done well at laying down his intrigue though, but I'm certain he was holding back at that meeting, seeing who would take immediate interest. He says he's going to send me his thesis on it."

"His thesis, sir?"

"Indeed."

*The lieutenant grinned, "Nothing like a good bit of light reading, right Sir?"

The captain squinted at him in a friendly way, just as the two made their way on to the bridge.

The Commander Pearce made his way towards the Captain, "The engine's are warmed up and ready for departure on your orders Sir."

"Very well Commander. Helm, take us out."

With a quick 'Aye Sir', the helmsman tapped away at the controls and the ship rumbled as it left and made its way in to orbit.

The captain then turned to Pearce and handed him his datapad, "Have the communications data on this patched in to the ship's communications computer. We should be receiving a signal from the Professor soon."

The Commander took the datapad and said simply, "On it Sir."

Feel free to PM me about almost anything and I'll do my best to answer. :)

@Fluttershy, it is very well and good that it could be in the nature of your character to be impatient, but channeling your personal regards to the expediency of the game does not benefit the atmosphere of game.

Specifically, towards players who may be under scheduling constraints in the real world, that can't make the RP a priority as high as you can: eg. they may not have as much free time to post here. Please be courteous in that regard.

Additionally, I personally do not want conversationalistic posting of just single-sentences or single words. Please limit that.

@LordSinister: Sorry for not addressing this earlier. I thought people would get the gist from the post habits of other players.

@Everyone: How many actions they can take per post is "As many as they wish to, as long as it is within reason, in context to the relative passage of time given by other players (the rates of their actions) and the rates at which they can interact with them."

This of course can allow for permission overrides in a way, if you plan on interacting in a specific way with other PCs, or don't wish to drag things out.

  • For example, if one player character wanted to shake hands with another, one could either Offer a handshake in one post, and then hope that the post immediately following would be that other PC in response that accepts the handshake.
OR they could read that other Player's sheet and make an Assumption as to how they'd respond to that specific (non-important) gesture (the handshake) and make a post that describes how their PC offered a handshake, and the other PC accepted it, in the same post. (Or, if the second Player thought this incongruous, it could be edited by the first player to be more in the nature of the second Player's imagining of their character.)

The very nature of such an action of that is called "Other PC Control", and the lines can get blurry as to when can be defined as an unimportant action (which may not be of consequence if players other than yourself take command of your PC or ship) or an important action (which can be very annoying, disturbing or frustrating if other players control your PC in a way you don't want or like). Because of this, Players are discouraged from doing this. However I as GM retain the right to assume full control over other Player Characters if I feel that the game must be expedited. For example, this evening I almost did for your character, LordSinister, and sent you a Private Message saying that I would if you did not make a post by 6pm PST.

The general rule of thumb for actions I say is simply whatever one feel's comfortable with as long as it fits within the pace of everyone together more or less. Fluttershy having posted on the previous page in a very small paragraph what took others more than one post to describe (ship readying and forming up with the Valiant) is teetering on that fine line to walk between speaking into the future and presuming the current situation and perception of the environment.

_________________________

Battle however will be different. Players are limited to one combat action (plus one other action, be it maneuver, repair, weapon prep, etc.) per Post. (One combat action can include descriptions of the specific use of any or all weapons mounted on your vessel. If you have a frigate with four weapons total, one combat action can describe four different weapons firing.)

Once a combat action has been posted, I will post the level of success of that action.

Players can post any number of normal kinds of posts during combat as well, but when they use their weapons they are limited to only one Combat Action Post per Reaction Post (posts made by me that describe success).

And another note, when colorizing Bold text to indicate conversations by other players, use #FF0000 so that we don't get wildly varying (and distracting) colors.

The ensemble of Spaceships formed around the Valiant, which had been largely hiding in the cast shadow of the planet Carina III, rendered entirely black by the contrast of its faded cyan atmosphere.

One of the engineers on the bridge console popped up a spritely voice in a cautioning tone.

"Helmsman, we're getting a weapons trace." a deep booping alert started coming from the screen that read 'Local Combat Comm'. Darril jerked up in his seat, throwing his Rubik's cube behind him without regard to where it was going to land, staring intently into his screen.

"Engines set to Ready, Maneuvering to face heading." he said in a suddenly serious manner.

"Silhouette matches previous record... it's the Janzar." said the weapons officer.

"Horte.." said Darril under his breath. He tapped a notification on his keypad. "Captain, report to the bridge, ready for contact, amber." The Professor, who was sitting nearby on the edge seat of the bridge with a console of his own, turned and furrowed his brow at the change in atmosphere Darril's voice brought.

In the Captain's quarters, richly adorned with velvet drapes and a fuzzy carpet, Roam rose from his bed at the notification, dreary eyed and dazed from a deep sleep which he had very much enjoyed. 'Amber' was the word that prevented his end to his his slumber from being annoyed or humored. Within moments he had straitened himself out from his bedclothes and into his Captain's suit, sporting a vivid maroon coat hung over the shoulder and draping down one side of his body. He strode onto the bridge in an attentive and somewhat frustrated manner, but still with a somewhat insincere smirk on his face.

"Morning fellows." he said in a cool and swarthy voice.

"Captain, we're being approached by a 'Vette, the Janzar." said Darril. Roam's face dissolved from his smile into a rather embittered expression. The Professor looked up from his use of the datapad to his sudden noting of Roam's presence. It was the first time he had seen him what appeared to be 'angry'.

"Sir, they're opening communication, shall we contact?"

"Well it's only polite." He said, somewhere in-between a jovial serious statement and highly annoyed sarcasm.

The main display screen on the wall offered forth the picture of a man sitting in a large metallic chair, somewhat spindly in size with a rounded chin and curly hair.

"Richard Roam, how have you been?" His self-satisfied voice came through oily and partly nasal.

"Eustace." greeted Roam.

"I see you're still on the down-low since that affair with the Palakkis Clan, not even coming in to dock at Carina and choosing to hide out beyond sensor range. What are you up to these days?"

"Treasure hunting."

"Oooh, what fun. Say- if you tell me where you're off to, maybe I'll let you keep a cut of it after I report you to Palakar."

"Horte, you never could read a poker game. Do you even see these other ships?" said Roam, gesturing on the holo-display to the signatures of the other vessels around him. The Captain of the Janzar suddenly went quiet, not realizing the situation of the ships's rendezvous.

"I'm not going anywhere, and the Palakki's aren't going to hear a word of it, unless you want to see your precious dinky little ship breaking up and icing out, here in the middle of nowhere."

"I'm not scared of you, Roam! And it's about time we'd meet up like this anyways; you've had it coming since that stint on Ogfo! Get him, boys!"

Four other equally sized corvettes uncloaked immediately beside the Janzar, swooping towards the Valiant.

"Battlestations, arm all weapons and maneuver to avoid." said Roam, taking instant strides towards his seat. He activated a Convoy-wide comm.

"Alright new guys, this is your chance to prove your stripes. Engage the Janzar squadron, destroy them."

"haha! with pleasure!"

Yilne stood up from his chair and started barking orders over the intercom system.

"Put this ship on combat alert status: Beta! Helmsman, keep us straight. guide us towards the Janzar."

Yilne's crew scrambled to their post. on The Xielumbus the weapons systems sprang to life -port holes opening, and turrets rising to life, finding their targets. meanwhile the Helmsmen maneuvers the vessel closer to the Janzar.

"Gunnery Sergeant, activate the Targeting Buffer, fire the Heavy Cannon! launch missiles at anything that gets close to the Valiant! I want the Laser Cannon on that main ship!"

the sergeant pulls down the visor rig and flips a few switches. in his field of vision he was getting a real-time image of the Janzar. he pressed a switch and a grid appears over the main enemy ship. the targeting Buffer takes over- selecting the entire area of the ship, pressing a button he assigns the Heavy Cannon, and the Laser Cannon. the Sergeant presses a button and the Buffer selects the enemy's supporting ships as well- assigning the missiles to the supporting vessels. He flipped up 3 more switches- switching on the Laser Cannon, the Heavy Cannon, and the Missiles. he presses a button on top of the Laser cannon switch and the one above the Heavy Cannon switch, arming the weapons, and begins firing at the Janzar. finally, he presses another button above the missiles- firing them at supporting ships when they get in range of the Valiant.

"MIPAI! scramble my wingmen! I want 1 ship covering the Valiant, the other two on the Janzar! Weapons used at their discretion!"

MIPAI sends out the scramble order. Wingman 1 heads over to the Valiant- arming it's weapons and firing at any ship that comes near. MIPAI orders the other two on the Janzar. they begin firing a combination of Flak, and Laser Cannon fire.
