Because the mindset that politics needs to be bipartisan is toxic and gives way to the notion everyone's viewpoint is valid and needs to be considered.

Half-assing policy to make it bipartisan is how you end up with disasters like the electoral college, the 13th amendment, and Obamacare, when you could instead have better systems like runoff voting, complete abolition of forced labor, and medicare for all.
