Okay, here is the GOOD version of the trailer available to watch or for download. I'm kind of boycotting the old Youtube version simply because it's unfinished. The visuals are the same on both versions, though they made me add a pumpkin graphic to some contest they're conducting, I removed that for the downloadable copy.

 

The real difference between these trailers is in the audio, which can be crucial to setting mood. Thanks goes to Otto Beumelburg (I frequently misspell his name) for the great sound effects and most of the audio mixing and Craig Kesicke for composing great custom music for the trailer; both of whom had extremely short notice on this. You'll be hearing more of Craig Kesicke's music in the future as there are situations that I require custom music for, plus there's some drama going on surrounding my use of game soundtracks, but I'll save that for a separate post.

 

Now about the trailer itself! This is NOT the best trailer I could have made, however it's one of the safest. While it's impossible to make a trailer that's spoiler-free, I took pains to make sure this one didn't reveal too much about the episode. There are major scenes of the episode that aren't shown at all here and there should be plenty of surprises throughout the entire episode once it gets completed. Not only that, but I wasn't really ready to begin filming, so I just dropped the work I was doing and made a lot of snippet shots. There's a high probability almost none of the exact same shots you see here will be in the actual episode. On top of that, I changed a line or two of the dialogue so it would flow better and the joke at the end was made up for the trailer as well, it's not even part of the episode (because most jokes are less funny once you've already heard them). While the plot and theme will remain the same, several lines are delivered in completely different areas or context. My goal here was to give you a reason to watch the actual episode if you've already seen the trailer (and vice-versa once it comes out). So if you want NO spoilers, don't watch the trailer, but if you do, rest assured it doesn't spoil much.

 

When the episode does get completed, it will be both comedy and suspense and will likely be the longest episode of CP made so far, probably at least 15 minutes. While there will be humor throughout the episode, the jokes won't be as constant as some others because there will be more emphasis on developing the story. And while the episode will start out in the same location as "Shadow of a A Doubt" it is not meant as a sequel to it. I honestly don't know when it will be done since I've been so busy with other work, but I can guarantee it won't be rushed out the door.

Ah that is much better. The sound effects and voice overs really do make it.

Still, great job. I can see that you are starting to get some of your more ambitious ideas out. But I bet it's not as much as you would like to though, eh? Not to worry, there is still plenty of time for all of that as well. Guaranteed.

 

Looking good though. Can't wait for when you get CP episode done.

The audio really did make the trailer. The custom sound is fantastic. (Kudos to Beumelburg and Kesicke) I'm glad I waited to see this version.

 

FINALLY someone who knows what a trailers is supposed to be about. I hate trailers that give away the actual episode. In fact, that was my exact apprehension when I heard the cracker line. I was certain that it would be a major tension breaker in The Tunnel, and I was regretting watching the trailer when I read your post that it wasn't actually in The Tunnel at all! I'm relieved to hear that the trailer is so spoiler free.

Thank you for doing a trailer the right way: Enough to give an idea what it will be like, but not enough to break the mood on second view.

 

To tell the truth I was a bit skeptical about a suspenseful CP. I mean, I know you are great at humor, but suspense is a completely different area. Having Mike and Dave in that type of situation... Well, fright mixed with comedy usually ends lopsided. BUT! Now that I have seen this trailer I can tell that you will have no problems pulling both realism and comedy simultaneously.

I didn't think anyone could be that good. Sir, I stand corrected.

Holy crap, this is MUCH better with the special sound effects and stuff. Looks to be one of your better episodes. I can't wait until it comes out, or until the next Freemans Mind comes out. Good luck with all future endeavors.

15 minutes of CP? YEEESSSS! The trailer looks and sounds great, and I like the idea of putting some suspense into the series. (Though comedy is always good!) I can't wait to see the final product. But in the meantime I'll be waiting patiently. Keep being awesome Ross!

Good luck on your future episodes man, after seeing this Machinima HAS to want you to work on CP instead of FM. I mean I love FM, it's hilarious, but damn this ep is going to be goooooooood! haha.

Woah, that trailer actually was "Wicked Major Ass"! Really fantastic, I'm super excited now. And wow, people actually 'Notice' and moreover 'Like' the half-assed put together sounds? Excellent work, Craig! And I mean that to both Mr. Mengel as well as Mr. Kesicke but I'm mainly referring to Kesicke's work for the moment, those soundscapes were awesome! Definitely most of what made the trailer as exciting and hyper as it is.

 

Looking forward to it! Fifteen minutes is damn long, when you really think about it.

Keep up the good work and like everybody else here have already said: Don't take Machinima's crap, if they can't take the time to let you work out your genius, then they're pretty stupid. This reminds me of the old aborted GMod webcomic by Brashfink - I think it was called "The Supplanter". I'll be waiting eagerly for this one as your stuff is always high quality.

 

Please don't let the whole thing with Machinima.com get you down. I guess they're at least paying your bills, and BusinessWeek has you listed as a "Key Executive" of Machinima, Inc. That's got to count for something, right?
